Hi,

I just disabled the on-star. I don't like the light, and don't want my son mess around with the buttons.

It is pretty easy. Open the hood, and open the fuse box. Find fuse 31 (They are so good to print all fuse illustration on the fuse cover, just find the one marked "Mayday" and pop it off.

Et voila, the on-start is gone.

You can put the fuse to a socket marked "empty", since there is no contact in the socket, so it is safe.

Cheers,
Tony

Yep, I did this a couple years ago on both our Vibes. The lit buttons were very annoying at night and every so often OnStar would "call" our Vibes to try to get us to subscribe, so I pulled the fuses and solved both issues at once. Very simple "fix".

Maybe you could register your on-star number on the do not call list. My understanding is that 911 will still work if you are not subscribed. It might also be used to locate you if you are a missing person. I have kept on-star active for $12.95 a month. I figure it is worth that.

I might go and remove the fuse too. I've placed a small piece of black electrical tape over the light ever since I bought the car. I forgot it was even there until I saw this thread lol

You are right - it is a good function when get stuck or lost...when GPS fails.

In that case, if time allowed, I will spend 1 minute and put the fuse back on, and use the free 911 function! And then they can track me too.
