Night-time Headunit Pic Request!

What can I say, I love pictures.Just wondering what everyone is running out there. I'm currently looking at Eclipse/Alpine/Pioneer/Kenwood headunits myself, but I am wondering what you all are using to brighten up that interior! Daytime pics are good ... ... ... but night-time pics with the dash all lit up would be very cool to see. So post away, mb a little bit of "Show and Tell"

Unfortunately most people don't know how to take a good "night time" pic. And automatic cameras don't either. Without good light they don't focus very well. And if they think the scene is dark (it will always be too dark for the kind of picture you want) they trigger the flash, which defeats the purpose. And if the flash is disabled, the shutter speed for a low-light shot will slow down. With a slow shutter it's hard to hold the camera still long enough to avoid a blurred picture. So, for anyone trying to take a night-scene shot of your dash, using only the head unit's own light, try this:Turn OFF your flash.See if your camera has a nighttime scene setting. If it does, pick it.If your camera has a manual focus mode, you might get a sharper image using it.Prop yourself and the camera so it won't move during the shot.Take several pictures, each with a slightly different setting(s). Some may turn out, others won't. But with several you stand a chance of having at least one good one.Still not a good picture? Change something and try again.Hope that helps.KSNeptune

Terrible pic, but here's a shot of my Panasonic 602. The screen has 5 or 6 different animations on it. I usually leave it on the graphic equalizer screen because the other screens just play a few second animation loop over and over. It puts out decent power for not having an external amp, and it has an auxilary input for my dvd/mp3 player which is cool. It was a toss-up between this one, and the JVC or Sony models that go completely black when turned off. I like the looks of those at night. Here's a pic in the daylight:

Lookin' great guys!

Sub Vibe R - I am extremely interested in how the night-time colors contrast with the red in the Vibe's interior.I think I am going to go for a bit of contrast in the interior, so that the headunit doesn't get "lost" in all the other red of the dashboard. Then again, mb I haven't seen the right red headunit yet ...

umm it's just a unite of measure.Vibe stock HU is a 2 DIN unit. However most people are putting in 1 DIN size, with the spacing kit thing. The kenwood excelon x769 (which I think meathead has) is a single DIN unit, however it has dual moving face (3D mask technology as Kenwood calls it) so it actually looks like it is larger than it is when it folds down for the controls.

Ok, I'll bite. The head unit is a Premier 840. This is with the face open.

Ahhh, interesting.I was seriously looking at the Pioneer MEH-8400, I think that and the 840 are almost the same from what I recall. How'd you do the foot-well lighting, I've been curious as to doing that myself.

The only difference between the Premier and the Pioneer 8400 is a 2 year warrenty (only if purchased from authorized dealer) and an annoying beep when you don't take the face off. I am pretty sure that is it. The neon is the SG mini 9" tubes. Since there is absolutely no where to screw them into, the double sided sticky tape they come with works wonders. I hard wired them into a switch. On an odd note, with the interior neon in blue, it seems to make driving at night less stressful on the eyes as oncoming headlights don't seem as bright. Must have something to do with the pupils being smaller than without the lights.

Finally decided to replace my Head Unit (all for the sake of Satellite Radio, i'm hooked!). Installed a Kenwood Excelon KDC-X569 - with Sirius Satellite Tuner directly connected to the HU (no transmitter = cleanest signal, in my opinion). Here is a night-time pic of this model.

quote:Hope you don't mind me asking how much it cost?I buy most of my audio equipment from Crutchfield (crutchfield.com) - they are a little higher priced than some other places, but I have always found their tech support staff and service phenominal over the past years. This model runs about $300 currently - check out their site if you get a chance and plug in the model number to pull that particular model. They have a promotion for the next week or so where you get a free Satellite Tuner ($150 value) with the purchase of a qualifying head unit and a satellite antenna.

Ah yes! I have Crutchfields latest catalogue, will check it out and compare it ( the prices ) with some stores here in Montreal. Did you keep the OEM speakers or did you change those as well?

quote:Did you keep the OEM speakers or did you change those as well?I swapped out my OEM speakers with Pioneer's (nothing spectacular) over a year ago - the new HU provides more power and they sound alot better. I'm sure the OEM speakers would sound better as well with an aftermarket head unit.IM me if you have any other questions.. I'm going off topic in this thread, so I should set an example. OK - back on topic - and random thought....I picked this head unit since the buttons were red - I think that helps blend in better with the other red controls on the dash.

Awesome headunit, Nick!!!With my current budget being as it is, I think Kenwood is the way to go for me. All i need is something to plug in my iPod with ... I will be happy
