2010 Vibe Auto Headlight mod - partial failure

Hi,

I have found the auto light annoying and I believe some have the same feeling.

Then I tried to disable it and I saw some pop out the light sensor, and thus disabled the auto light but the Daytine Running Light is still working.

Today I did that. It was pretty simple, just use a flat head screw driver (if you have a plastics one, use it - less chance to scratch the hard plastics) and po it from left and right side.

Then you can unplug the wire hardness from the sensor.

From those 2003-08 version, report said the auto light is gone but DRL is still there.

I found on my car that the auto light is gone, however so as the DRL - it won't light up! I like the DRL since it is a safety function. Will try to find out the schematic to see if there is any wiring that I can bring this back.

Be careful, when the wire hardness is loosen, it will drop down under the panel and very hard to get it out again. The place is just too narrow for any too. I tried an hour and still can't get it out!!!!

Hope this helps anyone who want to do the auto light mod.

Tony

Just got out my Helm 2009-10 manuals to help out another GenViber in trouble so I'd figure I'd take a couple snapshots of the DRL wiring
diagrams. Hope this helps IF you can read them. The large book doesn't fit into my scanner all that great so I just took a few photos of the pages
needed to explain the DRL function. I personally did NOT disable mine and probably will not. Hope this helps .......................... Tim

Updates:

I just found that the DRL is still there! It is a dimmed high beam. I thought DRL was from the low beam, and I did the check under the sun so I didn't notice the dimmed high beam.

Will run for a couple days and report.

Updates:

The DRL is okay.

In the beginning I started the car, and found no DRL. However when the emergency break is off and transmission is moved from "P", the DRL came in.

So removing the sensor does disable the automatic light, however leaving DRL in function.

Cheers,
Tony

Glad you got it sorted. I got so used to automatic lights with my Intrigue that I was actually glad the Vibe had them. I understand the frustration for some people but I guess I'm just lazy. Too lazy at times, since I sometimes forget to turn them on manually in the rain.

yes I got a feeling of Lazy and I might plug it back one day.

I used to drive a Peugeot in the country I from, and the sensitivity of the auto light is controllable. And by pushing a button 4 seconds toggles auto light on/off. Which is more practical!
