Exterior driver's door handle

Went to get in my car after grocery shopping tonight, and the handle popped a little, a heard a "ding," and it wouldn't open the door.

Nothing on the ground so, if anything broke/fell, it fell inside.

I can open the door just fine from the inside -- but if I use the handle from the outside, it'll open only to the catch-point -- and I cannot then close it securely from the outside, either.

Power door locks still work.

Mygmpartsstore.com has good exploded views of parts -- but they don't identify the parts in the picture! There's numbers, on the pic, but the parts list doesn't have accompanying numbers.

So I'm not sure what part I need to look at, once I get the door panel off.

Anyone experience anything similar? Have a better site with ALL exploded parts view for the 2003 ?

Thanks

Take a look at Derf's video here. Sounds like maybe the same thing happened to yours. If so you might be able to fix it like he did. Or if not then the part you probably need is here, #1. Look for the outside door handle in the color you need. If it's a different problem at least that link will give you the number links you're looking for.

My problem's a little different (handle didn't detach from the front -- just flops around from the rear) -- but I'm sure that video will help.

Thanks!

I agree the Vibe door handles a generic part between many Toyota lines (I like it when a company finds something that works and goes with it). Just make sure you get one that matches the color of your car. When I first contemplated fixing the door, the colored handles were going for over $50 US and no one had neptune blue in stock, so I recycled mine (Epoxy is a wonderful thing :D ) Hopefully you can find a replacement, if not hopefully your bits are still in the bottom of the door.

One other note, if the door handle did not pop out of the door, their is a plastic union inside the door that holds some of the metal pieces in place. I wonder if it gave out allowing the handle to move, but not engage the door mechanism.

Hey, to be frank I have seen lots of problems when ever I used to buy any product from dealers :( :(
But then I decided that I would only buy the products from online and my experience say that you should try for ebay its really good :) :)
