Saw this SLP hood on ebay, right now it's 0 bids, $250 starting bid, $375 buy it now, (free shipping with buy it now) ends Sep-02-03 11:38:24 PDT Seems a lot cheaper than the prices previously posted in this thread

The one on ebay doesn't have anything on it, no primer or gelcoat or anything...so I can only imagine thats why is so damn cheap. I'm thinking of buying it though...would I have to get it gelcoated? or just primed and painted? 375 versus 690 is a huge difference...but the 690 includes gelcoat. I don't know anything about painting, priming or anything...and are these fiberglasS? Anyone know? Argh.

The hood come on gelcoat. From the e-bay auctionquote:HOOD IS AS SHOWN IN PICTURE BUT IS NEITHER PAINTED NOR PRIMED, AND COMES WITH NO GRILL FOR THE SCOOP!!! So you'll need to have it primed and painted, and find out grills for the scoop. The only difference with this hood and the one sold directly from SLP are the primer and the hood grills. And you can also order it without primer from SLP.

Where did you have it shipped? Does it have to be to a body shop?I already have a CAI and so I dont think I want to make the hood functional...do I still need to have something in the slots?

Nova, how much did you pay to get yours primed and painted? I'm just looking for an estimate...

I'm having the one I got shipped to my house. The one available directly from SLP MUST be sent to a bodyshop (their requirement).I'll post some pics once I receive the hood (pre-paint). I've got a small dent in side of my car that I've got to take to a body shop (damn Michigan roads). I'm trying to roll the hood work into that repair ("...hey, if you want to fix this insurance job...what would it cost to...???)I asked about the grills for the ports - he doesn't have them. I'll end up getting those from SLP. I can't imagine they cost much. I definately would not install the hood without the grills (reference previous damn Michigan roads).

Well, the paint was only about $200 but my body shop guy had to do about $400 of body work to get the top of the hood perfectly flat. There were some waves in the top where the lower half bonds to the top half. He's a perfectionist. $600 total, OUCH but at least it's perfect.

Well I bought it!Let's just hope Mike doesn't kill me! The guy told me a company in Canada went out of business and he was able to pick up the hoods cheap...they are the same hoods SLP sells. At 375 shipped, I couldn't pass it up. Oh dear, now the guilt comes... lol

Well, hopefully we both are pleased with what we're being sent. Seemed like a decent guy. He mentioned something about some property in Florida that he wanted to offer me, too. (hmmmmm.... )Really looking forward to delivery...Let's hope for the waveless version!

I'm getting a cost estimate tomorrow... if all goes well I'm just having them ship the hood to the paint place. The guilt has passed and now I'm giddy with excitement.

Shaddup Mike...you couldn't help anyway!I got a price quote for painting this hood this weekend...get ready for this...$1,043. A thousand f'ing bucks!!! They must be kidding me...but really, they arent. I can't believe it. That includes color matching the bumper (complete repainting) and dusting and clearing the fenders... the car isn't even a year old, why the repainting?? Ug...I need to check out a few more places because I'm NOT paying that much...no way.

Don't let them repaint the fenders. I didn't. Just have them paint the hood. Mine is silvers which is very hard to match and it's very close.I figure it this way, if something ever happens to the SLP hood I can always put the original hood back on. But if they repainted the fenders the fenders will be a different color than the original hood.

The would need to do something to the bumper and fenders though, right? At least buff them out...I would think the surface would look very different... no?

Nope. My Vibe wasn't touched. They only painted the hood. I installed it. A good body shop should be able to match the color. You have the paint code in the glove box so give them that. If you look close you can see the hood has slightly less green-tint to it but unless you know to look for it, most people can't tell.

I went to Sherwin William and I ordered paint with my color code to paint my mud guard. They do the exact same color.Check the result

ok...but I'm not going to paint the hood myself. The place only talked about painting, not adjusting anything... painting the extra parts for color matching. I don't know why it would need it though, even though a metallic can be harder to "get right". It might be nice to have my bumper repainted though, with a good heavy layer of paint...but 1000 bucks is still hard to swallow. I'm calling around and hopefully I can find a place, I'm even looking in Madison, WI...

right! i got a quote from a place in Anchorage and they told me $900! my guy in Fbx told me $350. Now, Carflair is going to be painting my SS hood there and shipping to me direct for $350. No way would I pay $900-1000! I'm with you on that!
