Not a bad looker. More and more of these efficient two-box designs coming available. Perhaps the wave of the future if CAFE standards don't get lowered somehow.

Oh my god, Nissan just made an attractive hatchback.
Wait.
109 HP? What? ...What?

Yeah, no drag racer! That is the exact same Horsepower as my 2000 Saturn SL1. For me, this is enough power in an economy car where the only thing I'm trying to beat is the evil gas pump.
$13,990 is cheap for a large-ish sub-compact with air conditioning. It will be interesting to see what it will cost to get the (40mpg) CVT tranny and cruise control.
A big plus for me is I can get it without the "magic" key and the stupid start "button". There's always some negatives, 4 bolt wheels, and wall-to-wall plastic interior, for instance.
I like the proportions of this car, it looks like it was designed by a single designer and not a committee.

I haven't noticed Nissan building an attractive anything here lately.

This isn't too bad looking at all. Kinda cute especially in that teal color.

Interior still looks a little on the cheap side, mainly dash and console.
109 HP is quite weak... Accent and Rio have 138. I have 110 HP in my '06 Accent, it requires a tremendous amount of planning to make sure you don't get yourself into trouble. Quite tedious to drive the thing sometimes, really!

"109 HP is quite weak"... Indeed!
My Saturn gets away with it by hitting peak torque (114 #ft) at 2400 rpm. At 1.6 liters, the Nissan note will likely hit peak torque somewhere around 4500 rpm. That could be a real problem for the 5 speed manual. Hopefully the CVT transmission can effectively mask this lack of power. I may be able to live with an under-powered car as long as it doesn't constantly throw it in my face. I'm looking forward to test-driving this one!

So $13,990 DOESN'T get you:
Keyless entry
Power windows
Power locks
Cruise control
Variable intermittent wipers
Map light
Rear cup holders
Vanity mirrors
Driver's seat armrest
MP3 capability
among other things.
You'd be better off buying something used for that kind of money and get all of the above features. About the only reason I can see buying this is if you wanted a new car with a full warranty for not a ton of money.

Yeah, The base model is missing a few options. But it DOES come with air-conditioning! I'm guessing that I'm not the only masochist here who can live without power windows.

I had a new Nissan once. A 2005 Sentra.
That's why I now have a (Toyota) Vibe.

Thanks Vulcan05,
Please start a new thread in "the others" and rant on the 05 Sentra. I'd love to read it!

I think the interior looks great for a economy car...just like the Vibe. I do think the Chevy sonic or Honda Fit looks much better though. Im sure it will be a great car. c r a p...cars are so much better than they were 20 years ago. I remember GM cars were just crap in the 1990s. Can you even buy a piece of crap these days? Most cars are super reliable, get great MPG have so many safety features etc. I have seen a lot of Chevy Cruse's out here & they look pretty good. Im positive its better than a 1993 Lumina

.....does anyone remember the Barretta???

And I have to disagree this is the first good looking hatch from Nissan! I've got two that I think are darn fine looking!

Amazon.com is "selling" the Nissan Note!
"For shoppers, the biggest upside of this promotion is that the first 100 Versa Note customers whose purchases are initiated through Amazon receive $1,000 Amazon gift cards. If you're a frequent user of the site, that's like cutting the cost of the Versa Note to $12,990."
