2003 vibe gt 2zz w/ a 6speed

ok so here is the scoop normally i shift around 3k and give it 1/3 throttle and usually do 10-15 mph over the limit
driving like that i usually get between 21-23 mpg around town no highway

this last tank i drove soooo slow it was painful i shifted under 2k and gave it about 1/20th throttle
which is barely enough to get the car moving lol seriously i was doing like 5 under the speed limit and almost didnt make it up hills !
with that said i got 37+ mpg on this last tank all city no highway at all . Also i shifted 1st,2nd,4th,6th skiping 3rd and 5th gear

thats like hybrid teritory !!!!!!!

not in a rush to get honked at and passed by old blue hair ladies any time soon again but wow just wow 37mpg

Yep, and that's on winter gas. You may have gotten 3 mpg more if it were summer time.
I got 41 mpg on the highway on my Corolla Vibe, driving at 55 mph. I thought I would get crushed like a tin can on the trip, but it was fun getting a number like that when my sticker says 26/31.

91 octane gas around here doesn't usually have ethanol in it...

I changed my driving habits in the spring to shifting at 3000rpm and I'm now in the low-mid 30's

On long freeway trips I ran the numbers and decided the time saved was worth the additional cost of the gasoline.
Save about an hour on a 615 mile trip - about 1.5 gal of gas more = $5.25.

i was very jealous of every one getting more than 25 mpg so i figured i would see what all the fuss was about
soooooo not worth the agrivation or time lost to drive that slow though . so ill go back to my regularly 21-23 mpg

no, you are right. Driving for hours at 55 mph watching your rear view mirror as idiots "hike up your skirt" is not worth the trouble. I just did it for fun once. I'm back to my usual 75-80 mph, and just recently got 31 mpg on mostly highway. Keep in mind that I routinely get 33 mpg during the warm months in all suburban driving. So not only does my Corolla not like cold starts, long warm ups, and reformulated gas, it does not like 75 miles per hour and above. Soooo, going from warm weather with only me in the car at 55 mph and 41 mpg on the highway.......to winter weather and reformulated gas, with three people in the car loaded with luggage at 70-80 mph, nets me 10 less miles per gallon. yea its borderline dangerous to drive the speed limit . considering almost every one else does 5-20 over most of the time . most of that driving was done in the 35-45 range and in hilly towns . also im a dj so this was mostly late night driving with little to no trafic , but i had 200 lbs of sterio equipment in the car too . oh and it snowed twice on that tank so.........

the saving grace was the instant mpg and average mpg gauges i have on my "torque"app on my android i found that there is about a 10th of a mm pedal travel between 25 mpg instant and 35 mpg instant on the gauge and with the same feel pull wise , its that sweet spot !
but alas it was boaring as all heck so its back to 40 in a school zones and 80 everywhere else lol

hey, dont feel bad about your numbers!! since i swapped my vibe to 6 speed i usually get about 24-28mpg on the drive back and forth from lima to ironton, which is about 45% 55mph, 45% 65mph, and 10% city, around 35mph. if i baby it and try to squeeze every last inch out of a gallon, i can get 30, MAYBE 31 if im extremely lucky. the real kicker is that i still have a 1ZZ!!!

High MPGs don't only come from driving like a little old lady... try to keep your RPMs under 3000 when accelerating and you will see an increase in your MPGs .

On a 100% highway trip, with my automatic 1zz, cruise control engaged, high power draw (DVD player, radio), A/C, and roughly 65mph, I somehow got 38mpg. I've never come close to that number after that. Disappointing, especially since I'm returning mid-twenties in the winter...

i have no chance of seeing 30 in the winter, it was wayyy back when there was still summer gas in it the last time i managed to squeeze 30 out of it

I said it in the gas mileage thread some time back. The Vibe is the most difficult to consistently fill car that I've ever had. The mileage per tankful is all over the map. I have become a little better at filling it to the same point, but its still difficult to get consistent mileage from one tank to the next, given the same type of driving all the time.

I gave up and created a spreadsheet on the computer and now log every fillup for both of my vehicles. It shows me all the stats including cost per mile and the mean and median average from the first tankful, total spent on gas is also in there.

OK .. my turn. Only did it a few times (like others pointed out, it's to dangerous to drive slower than others on the interstate ) Got 37 mpg & 36 mpg during summer trips! This is from the bigger 2.4L engine & a manual transmission. Might do it again next week when I drive down to Florida Only if I decide to drive through the night when traffic will be at a minimum!

I got 33.5 going uphill at 75-85 MPH with A/C on and everything else running. Best I have ever gotten besides my last trip in NM at 75, A/C on, two passengers, luggage, and lots of uphill with the engine having to work really hard to keep up (got 33.5 again). The highway EPA is a gross underestimate for SURE!

lucky you all!! im gettin the epa estimated milage of a vibe gt without the extra power!!

I usually get about 500km to a tank in the city in my GT 6-spd. Shift before 2500 rpm and put it in 5th by 60km/h. I usually get about ~44 liters in the tank. So in the winter I'm getting about 8.5L/100 km or somewhere around 27mpg.

Summer on the highway with AC I get about 600 to a tank so something like 31 mpg?

Not too stellar, but not bad.

I've always beat the EPA numbers in every car I've own. That is, until I swapped the 5-speed for a 6-speed when the 5-speed went bad. I used to average 36mpg commuting in rush hour traffic and occasionally hit 40. Now I average 31. On top of that, at highway speeds, the engine runs at a higher rpm with the 6-speed, so the engine whines like an indy car. On the plus side, it is more responsive .
