How many 1st gen. "base" owners are using GT oil filters? Why or why not? I just realized they appear to be interchangeable.

The Purolator L14477 that you posted is used on the 2009 2.4L engine. Also numbered: PurOne PL14477
I don't know about the older engines from 2003-2008. I believe the 1.8L engine uses a cartridge filter such that you replace the paper element inside a plastic container.

the oil filters are physically interchangeable for the 1ZZ and 2ZZ engines. Supposedly, the filter spec'd for the 2ZZ is taller. One impact of this is that if you use a 2zz filter on 1zz, you need about an extra pint of oil per oil change. But, you get more filter surface, and more oil in the system, which some feel makes it worth doing.

Both 1ZZ and 2ZZ filters (03-08) are metal screw on cans. Permanent housings with replaceable internal paper filters was new for 09 engines

I always struggle to find the taller (gt?) filters for my '03 GT. All the catalogs in store recommended the same filters for all '03-'08 vibes. On occasion I'll see one different # for a '05 and it will be the taller filter.

If only i would right down the # for the correct filter! Mental note!
