hey guys toke the vibe out for a spin the other day and noticed a disturbing noise its an 03 gt . when im in a low gear first or 2nd i get a terrible groaning noise followed by a thunk everytime i take my foot on or off the gas . has to be a higher tq situation seems to do it mostly when starting from a stop or if im doing 20-40 mph in 2nd . wolnt realy do it in higer gears . i originaly though something came lose like the subframe , trans mount ,or a strut . but had it on a lift today and everyhing is tight !

now im thinking axle or trans . taking it to either a trans shop or the dealer very soon hopefully tomorrow

anyone else have or had this noise?

Great to hear! Thought maybe you had a tranny going bad.

mine did the same thing, i had bad front and back mounts tho. i just bought some energy suspension inserts for them and the problem ceased imeadiately. too bad they dont make inserts for the drivers side trans mount, bc mine is bad :(

Do the mounts only go bad on the manual transmission models? Or do the "autos" also develop this problem?

autos get the prob too, thats when my vibe did it. it started it way back, like a year before i swapped it to 6 speed. in autos it clunks when you put it from park or reverse to drive, or atleast thats the only time i noticed it, but my dad couldnt even tell it was doin it untill i pointed it out every time it did it with him in the car for about a week

normally the L & R mounts hardly ever go bad on fwd cars its the F & R mounts that take all the abuse . now if they get saturated with oil or coolant they may wear out a bit quicker

the noise i was getting was due to the washers on the bolt groaning against the mount as it shifted on the frame side followed by a clunk i must have left it a tad loose after installing the inserts cause it was about 2 months after they were put in only needed like one turn till tight
