What type of brakes are from the factory (oem) Ceramic or semi metallic? How do you know this?

I have 51,000 on my brakes and they look close to replacement.

Rockauto lists the OE pad material as Ceramic.

You must have an auto and do mainly city driving... IMO 80000kms seems way too soon to have to do brakes.

Actually 5-speed manual. Problem is... highway driving in conjested areas. 65mph - dead stop. 55 mph - dead stop - 70 mph - dead stop... (DC / Baltimore areas.)

I don't envy your commute.

star_deceiver,

Thanks for the info on the pads. With respect to my commute, yes it is annoying as XXX sometimes. I love my 5-speed... but some days in stop in go traffic, I wish it were automatic! (I have driven a stick for 27 years.)

Thanks again!

Doug

I take it you're the original owner of your Vibe when it was new? Junior's Vibe is an automatic and we bought it 18 months ago with 36K miles on it. We had to replace the brakes this past summer at only 42k miles. The prior owner must have really ram-rodded this poor car  My Vibe, like yours, is the 5-speed manual and at my driving pace, won't see a brake job in 15-20 years  Still sitting at just over 13k miles. That's going to change this winter when the wife garages her G8 GT and drives my Vibe. She is getting back into the work force and will be driving to/from job sites 4-5 days a week soon.
