GM Supercharger - too quiet?

I was just thinking of this today, but for those that did indeed get a chance to ride in the SC Vibe, or even those that did drive it (Hawke, Pablo), didn't it seem oftly ... quiet? There's a tell-tale whine of the supercharger when it's really going, reminds me of an F1 car. I love the sound, but I don't ever remember hearing it at the Michigan meet.Did you guys notice this too? Is there anyway to make it louder if it is so quiet?

I'm sure an CAI would add some noise to it. It did have a sweet whine to it with the hood open.

The SC even on the Grand Prix is very quiet IMO. The newer ones are very pleasant to drive with.

what ever noise it makes...it will be good ..It is like pavlov's dogs...you will associate the sound w/ power...which will be a pleasant feeling and pleasant sound.....on my turbo system I can faintly hear the humm of my secondary pump, the spooling sound of the turbo, and the BOV going off when I take my foot off the throttle...at 1st I did not know what to think of all these sounds...but since i realized that they are associated w/ more power,...i love all of them.....it just happened...undeliberatly......The sc may not be loud...but it will make some definative noise....and you will like it

The noise generated from superchargers is from the gears used to turn the rotor blades. Depending on the type of gears used they can be made to run quiet. It's very similar to why reverse gear in the Vibes manual transmissions is more noisy than the forward gears. Reverse gear in manual transmissions have straight teeth compared to the forwrad gears which have angled gears. Straight teeth are stronger but make more noise.Personally, I'd rather have a silent S/C so not to tip off unsuspecting challengers.

There is also induction noise associated with a supercharger. Typical stock intakes muffle it almost entirely, but a factory supercharged Buick (also an Eaton design) for example is slighty noticable with a K & N filter and has quite a whine with the air box cover off. Not as nice a tone in my opinion as a CAI on a normally aspirated Vibe, but still the "sound of power"...

On supercharged Grand Prix's, an aftermarket intake, whether it is home-depot-in-the-fenderwell or a $200 CAI will bring out the whine quite a bit. If you have the supporting mods, put a smaller pulley on the supercharger, and it'll whine even louder.
