Bought a used 2003 pontiac vibe but cd player doesn't work

The radio works just fine, I can tune, save stations, set the equalizer pretty much anything but listen to cds. It's like the cd player is just dead. the lights in the top of the radio don't come on, where the buttons for the cd player are. I'm guessing I will just have to replace the stereo completely, but I wondered if anyone had any idea what the cause of this might be. I got it this way.

A fuse maybe? But then I would think the radio wouldn't work either. Or maybe whoever you bought from had an aftermarket deck installed, then reinstalled the factory stereo before selling? There are three connections on the back of the stereo. The antenna and two wired connectors. Maybe of the wired connections didn't get plugged back in?

I'm guessing, I'm not sure how plausible that is. Luckily, it's pretty easy to swap out the stereos in the Vibe if you need to get a new one.

Thanks! I was planning on getting it replaced as a collective Christmas gift from the family, but if I didn't have to, I'd rather not. But, a new stereo could be good.

I would think an aftermarket unit from Crutchfield or Best Buy would be a better value than the overpriced OEM unit. If the knob in my 2009 breaks like has happened to many others here that's what I would do.

I'm actually getting ready to pick up a new h.u. because my cd player died as well... cd still inside. I may try to fix it once I get it out just for giggles but a new unit is definitely more appealing than trying to keep the existing one. I'm not sure what caused it but it started with the cd being put in and ejected multiple times before it stayed in and played - eventually the cd went in and decided not to come back out :( no idea why.
