Has anyone out there had trouble finding someone to service their car? GM dealer who sold me my used Vibe told me they couldn't service my transmission. Are they really that hard to work on?

Toyota dealer, or a ase certified shop. A local shop did the work on my 04 because the stealership wanted an arm and a leg, just up to the knee though.

thanks for the info hotbug; have an appointment @ my local service station in A.M..Just need tranny serviced and serp belt changed. Was floored when GM dealer said I would have to go to one of their competitors to get the work done. (which is 25++ miles away) Also have an inquiry in @ the Toyota dealer (50 miles away)

Where are you located? Update your profile showing this so us other members MAY be able to help you out with suggested service shops. Just curious as to your mileage and why any service is needed on your tranny. Welcome to this site and good luck in finding a reputable shop .................. :D

This is no surprise. As far as the GM dealer is concerned, Pontiac is no more and they deal with this accordingly.

It does somewhat surprise me, but I guess all dealers look at things differently. My local former Pontiac dealer, one of the top GMC dealers in the nation, is very happy to work on my Vibes. I get service coupons, even $9.95 oil changes, quite often. They want me to keep coming into the dealership so maybe I'll buy a new GMC or Buick as my next vehicle. It is much easier to keep a potential customer than try and get a new customer, and they know it.

Good luck on getting your car serviced, but I too wonder about the need for service. I didn't think the trans would need service unless it had well over 100K miles on it unless you drove it hard.

I took my car to my car the other day to local service station and they said they would be happy to change transmission fluid and filter and serpentine belt. Made appointment for this Friday.

BTW; the miles are about 62,000. With the hilly nature of my area; felt it would be money well spent servicing tranny. Belt is being changed because the flat side has some surface cracking.

I suggest you go to a Toyota dealer to buy the transmission oil. The transmission oil spec in your owner's manual is wrong.

I would be very leery about a "local service station" working on my car. Because our cars are a mix of Toyota and GM there is a lot of misinformation out there.

The Pontiac-GMC dealer where I bought my 2009 Vibe converted to a Chevrolet franchise. The Pontiac-GMC franchise went to a nearby Buick dealer, now of course only Buick-GMC. Both send me many mailings for service. The Buick dealer wanted to charge me extra for 5w-20 as they buy 10w-30 by the drum and have to use smaller packages for 5w-20. For that and other reasons I get my service at the now Chevy dealer. The Toyota dealers are not nearby but I think if I needed a transmission service I might go to a Toyota dealer. I may be dead before I hit 60,000 miles on my '09 - only 18,000 so far.

Toyota transmission fluid is available on ebay if you don't want to travel the 50 miles to your Toyota dealer. The Transmission should be serviced with Toyota fluid! A local service center can use the fluid you provide.
