Fear Not, for I have returned!

Hi all, I'm back from my 4000+ mile in 14 days vacation (if you can call driving that much a vacation). I think I sawe a total of 15 Vibes on the road, 4 monotones (Blue, white, black, and satellite) and the rest were 2 tone. Of the two tones I saw 5 Satellite, 2 Salsa, 2 Lava, 1 Shadow, and one Frosty. Not as many as I expected, but there were only about 4 Matrices spied. Most of each were bone stock looking. The AEM intake I installed 2 days before the trip (not too smart on my part) gave me no problems what-so-ever. I like the sucking sound when it starts and the swallowing sound when revving. Kinda fun to listen to the blow off valve sound when shutting it off or going to idle. Sounds like I need laid eh? Any-who, no check engine light. I let my Mom drive it, as she would always tell us stories growing up about her '64 GTO with 3 duces etc.... She was weary at first to take it above 6K RPM's at first, but I talked her into it. I have never seen such a sinister look on her face before, smiling evil like from ear to ear. Rice Spotting: not a whole lot, there was a spray paint gold Civic, an accord on the way outta New Mexico (He about pooped himself when he thought he was going to take off fast and I was on his @ss until he got over), and a ghetto V6 probe with a wing that would make a 747 envious (he lost too). Casualties of the trip: My wallet! 1.70 per gallon for "premium" 90 octain in Clovis, NM. Lots of bugs, I mean a LOT of them. Due to the sheer number, size, and travelling at high rates of speed, I lost my graphixworks front arrow overlay (not completely, the bottom ping is peeling off), and my lower passenger side grill was broken. 50 miles from the end of the journey, while stopping for dinner, I managed to rip a hole in the sidewall of my 18's!! CRAP! Lukily the guy watching our house brought me everything I needed to get rolling again (read stock wheels). So now I'm rollin ghetto style with 2 stock rims up front and the 18's in back. It coulda been worse! That is it, the full report. Good to be back.

Also, how did you manage to rip through your sidewalls?!Big bugs through Oklahoma and New Mexico pelted the car for hours, I am pretty sure that is how the grill got broken. It isn't really noticable, it just snapped around the frame. quote:On a side note: Everytime I see your name (pissedoffgokart) and look at that Mini, I laugh. it's just so perfect That would be were the name came from, that is the Mini's official name for many reasons.

Rough trip, but it sounds like a great way to test out the Vibe. My dad had a 1964 Pontiac GTO with 3 deuces also. It was a great looking car and incredibly fast! It was real light, had few options, no pollution control equipment and that big engine. I believe it was the most unusual car my dad has had, out of a string of cars that included a '59 MGA, a '60 Chrysler New Yorker convertible, the first '63 Corvair convertible delivered in Chicago, a '64 Bonneville convertible, an early '66 Toronado, a 25th anniversary Corvette, multiple Cadillacs, including one of the first hundred original '76 Sevilles, 3 Porsches . . . I still remember the car magazine which had a cover comparing the Pontiac GTO and the Ferrari GTO. Check out this great site I found for old GM pics:

In reality, they didn't even have a Ferrari GTO during the comparison test and the GTO was a ringer tuned by Royal Pontiac dealership. It wasn't a 398 engine but a 421 Royal Bobcat used to promote the GTO.Read about it here:

Maybe off topic for the thread but----------------Scott , You never cease to amaze me!! I am amazed with your wealth of information that you seem to come up with on any topic and any situation--plus you always provide pictures to back your statements. Not to sound corny but ---You know your S*** ! and are a valuable resource to this web site.People say that you flame too much -but I would rather hear the truth--right or wrong-than a load of BULLS***. Am I envious?---------YES!! James (Vibe)

Thanks James. In reality, I'm a car geek. I've been hooked on cars and around cars since I born. I came home from the hospital after birth in the back of a '66 GTO. GTO's and Novas have been 2 favorites of mine (however I like all cars). I read literally 8 car magazines a month (Car and Driver, Motor Trend, Super Chevy, Chevy High Performance, Musclecar Enthusiast, Hot Rod, Car Craft and The Nova Times) and 1 weekly magazine (National Dragster). I actually dropped a few magazines (Road & Track, Popular Hot Rodding and Classic Auto Restorer) because I coundn't keep up or I was getting duplicate information.

Welcome back! Sounds like you had a great time except for the few mishaps. Glad to see that you could race a few people too. Good luck with the replacement and fixing of the few problems you had.
