Troubling selling salvage status Vibe - what to do?

I'm doing a friend a favor - actually to the family as the vibe owner sadly passed away.

So I've got an 2005 decent shape Vibe auto with about 60,000 miles. It is however a salvage status rebuilt car and I'm getting what I think as crazy lowball offers ($4000 or so). It was professionally rebuilt and drives fine. I'd never be able to tell it was salvage. But I have to obviously disclose this to perspective buyers.

What would a decent value for it be?

Thanks

ps. Car is in the Pacific Northwest ~Seattle area.

40-60% off what it would be worth with a normal title. Even then it can be a pita to find somebody to buy it. Just have to keep dropping the price till somebody will take it. I'd say the $4k isn't that crazy.

BTW around here a salvage title means it can't be driven on the road at all. My wrecked miata sitting in the back yard for parts is a salvage title car. If I were to fix it up and try to get it road legal I'd have to get it inspected and get a rebuilt title.

$4K sounds about right. Even if the repair shop did a decent job, there is no guarantee how long it would last. As well, there may be an issue if the car would be in another accident. This partly explains why many buyers shy away from Salvage title cars, and even some car sites, etc don't recommend buying Salvage vehicles.

Four thousand on a seven year old car.... sounds right to me.

Nature of the beast. It's a salvage title and 4K isn't bad...take it!

My first car, the car before my Vibe, was a 2000 year model Mustang. We had bought it at a salvage yard and had it repaired. No mechanical damage as the car had been in a rear end accident. I sold it for $3000.00 in July of '09; originally had it at $4500 and they offered $2500. It had around 114,000 miles too. Had it and drove it for 3 years. It did however have some flaws that needed to be fixed due to being rear ended a second time, but I had plenty of potential buyers scare off because of the Rebuilt title. Don't put it at a clean value title as you'll never sell it.

Its often hard to get comprehensive insurance on a salvaged car as the insurance company doesn't want to pay if its damaged again in an accident. Besides, $4000 for the car isn't bad...
