I'm new to this forum so thanks in advance for any help! I'm looking to replace the brake pads on my 09 Vibe base but I'm having some major issues getting the E brake piston to recede. The fronts were easy as pie to do but I'm having hell of a time getting the E brake piston to recede on the rear calipers. I have the caliper tool and I'm twisting it down clockwise but it won't budge... any suggestions? I've already removed the brake master cylinder reservoir cap and the bleeder screw with no change.

Also, the driver's side rear caliper has a torn dust seal boot so I'll need to take the caliper in for repair. Any suggestions on how to disconnect the caliper completely? Do you just remove the brake line and that torx screw?

apply some inward pressure to help push it in while spinning the piston.

To remove the caliper, you will need to disconnect the bolt that holds the brake line on and you will probably need to replace some copper crush washers that seal the line to the bolt. You can't reuse them or they risk leaking. And bleed the brakes after that. I'm not 100% sure on it, but that is how all the other brakes are assembled that I've worked on.

Thanks for the replies, I've definitely been applying inward pressure while turning the cylinder in... it will turn but won't go down at all. As for the caliper, I've already removed the brake line but I think I have to remove a torx screw that holds down the e brake component on the caliper.

Accord has a slot type which is easier to retract by using a very big flat head screw driver and a vice grip as leverage.

In our case you need the dimple type of piston detractor, just like what Ford does.

Great, thanks I was thinking I would need a tool that would twist and compress with vice like power. That seems like it will do the trick. $50 at Princess Auto, I'll go pick it up today.

I have that caliper kit from Harbor Freight, cost me like $20 on sale! I know several of the auto parts places rent it out around the states. I used to do that until I got the kit on sale.
