Hi all,
Just got breaks replaced on my 2009 Vibe in March 2012 - am now hearing 1) occasional squeaking from front drivers wheel - started off just at low speeds, but other day, was loud and consistent at 80-90km/h , and 2) grinding type noise from front passenger side, can hear it at low speeds, and particularly when breaking (roters still fine - were checked this weekend). Anyone else with the same problem(s), or any suggestions on what I might be dealing with? Appreciate your help!

Does the noise occur when you just had your brake replacement done? Or noise appear some millage after the repair?
Did you use factory brake pads and with all the anti sequel shims are properly installed with silicone lube apply at the back of the pad?
It seems there is rust build up since it is a rainy season.

Yes - I drive about 40km one way to work, and the noise is apparent both at the beginning and end of my commute. A few instances where I didn't hear the noise when breaking, but I'd say about 80-90% of the time, I can hear it.

This noise wasn't present when I had the breaks changed. I just noticed this noise a week or two ago.

Got ACDelco pads from GM - my father installed, everything was properly put on. Don't recall having put silicone lube on the back of the pad, though, unless it was already on the pad out-of-box from GM - would this make a difference?

Seems to be acting up since the weather started heating up - highs in the 30's (degrees) with plenty of humidity. Would rust have already gotten to my break system, given that was replaced only 3 months ago? Seems a bit soon?

If you didn't put the anti squeak compound on the backs of the pads and the shims, then that is most likely the problem. Your pads are vibrating in the calipers and that is causing the noise. The anti squeak compound cushions the pads and shims and keeps them quiet. Most parts places sell it in little tubes or packets for a dollar or so. They also sell a spray on type, but you have to make sure you don't get it on the pads themselves, only the metal backing plates. I'd pull the pads back off and apply the compound to the backs of the pads and you should be good to go. Might also lube the points where the calipers rest on the pins and the brackets to eliminate any chance of squeaking from it with some silicone lube.

Oh, and they are BRAKES, not breaks. One of the little pet peeves of mine.
