Well, it took 200k miles, but it finally happened. I need a new catalytic converter

Went for my emissions test and failed because I threw the CEL

Anyone have a line on a not expensive cat so I can pass the test?

LOL! It is very nice to not have to worry about not having a front license plate, having an intake installed, etc. :D!

I've seen some "snake oil" at the parts store that guarentees that to pass emmissions...for a few buck it might be worth a shot...you can't buy a used cat from most wreckers...I've tried.

Yuck, yeah I kind of figured as much... Looks like I've got to spring for a new cat. Oh well, whatever makes the emissions gods happy I guess

well sorry to hear you need a new cat but on the bright side, a new cat will give you some mpg. ;)

I fixed this on my 2000 Corolla using a couple spark plug non-foulers. I drilled the bottom out of one using a 1/2" bit, screwed it into a second one, screwed that one into the exhaust and then screwed the downstream O2 sensor into the first one. Worked like a charm and cost me ~$5.

I bought a magnaflow and a new sensor for $160.00 and passed...
