"IF YOU WANT TO KEEP YOUR VIBE OUT OF THE SHOP AND KEEP IT RUNNING GOOD FOR A LONG TIME DRIVE IT NORMAL...USE THAT 180 HORSES FOR EMERGENCIES OR ON A SPECIAL OCCASION AT A STOP LIGHT WITH A FORD FIESTA" This was a statement made under a thread I started back in March on the automotive forums (before I found this site ). I am not saying one should run thier car up to 7000 RPMs evey chance they get, but is this statement a bit extreme? What do you guys think?Jim

Yes I agree that this a bit extreme. If an engine cannot run continuously anywhere within the lower 90% of it's performance range it probably has a manufacturing defect. Although running an engine for very long periods of time in the lowset 10% may cause problems (carbon build up). This may happen when cars are never let out of the city to stretch their legs on the open highway.I purchased a BMW motorcycle new once and the master mechanic said the only concern I should keep in mind during the break in period (600 miles) is not to run the engine at a constant speed for any longer than necessary.Just my .02

I agree. The statement is kind of ridiculous. The motor was meant to run that many RPMs. I'm not saying you should be out there running it at 8000 RPMs every time you accelerate, but driving it and taking it up there every once and a while is great! Anything in access is bad. Just don't overdue it.Just my 2 cents as well.

Yeah, use the whole rpm range, just take care of it:don't rev it when it's coldmake sure you've got clean good oilREGULAR MAINTENANCEand don't sit at 8000 rpm in first gear just toddling along - that's bad.Other than that, the thing was meant to rev...and rev, and rev. Have fun!
