Is your shifter knob on as it is in the first picture (my 2009 Vibe)? Note that the rounded slope faces the dash. Yesterday, after I had my tire fixed and I got back in the car. I placed my hand on the shifter... and for some reason it didn't feel the same. Today I looked at the brochure in the manual pocket book to compare from the picture.This is an official picture of the shift knob....So is this an official picture.....

Mine is like the bottom two pics, which is where it fits tightly. I can spin it back around like the top pic, but it is loose when I do it. Actually, totally tight is with it turned a bit closer to 1 o'clock position instead of 12 o'clock.

Keep turning it right until it looks like the bottom two pictures.

I can not find an earlier picture to prove if someone turn it around. I never took one of it. The knob is also very tightly fitted I can't turn it.I just felt it different yesterday after I had the tire fixed. (tire got nailed)

It will screw off. I took mine off the other day. Spin it to the left to loosen it up, to the right to tighten it!

It appears you have entered a parallel universe after visiting the tire shop. This universe is nearly identical to the one you were in before but contains a few glitches. One of those being all shifter knobs are reversed. You may experience more glitches in this "matrix" from time to time. I'll report your findings to the "architect" for correcting. Just like everyone else has said, it's backwards. It screws on and off, so someone at the tire shop probably messed with it. Just turn it until it faces the right way again.

Oh man, hate to hear that. I know how it feels to lose someone close. Sorry for your loss. I was just trying to be funny by making a reference to the Matrix movie.

I can't remember how the knob got that way or was it always that way. Why would the repair guy twist the knob 180 degrees? It was never loose. Do you listen to Coast To Coast AM with George Noory?

Ya, those shifter knobs screw on and off. Just tighten it up till it faces the right way. One of the tire guys was probably bored and felt like messing with you or it was an unexplained mystery. I've had Sirius satellite radio for the past 8 years, so it's been awhile since I've listened to regular radio. I've heard of it before though, just never listened to it. Any good? Sounds like it's up my alley.

I'd go aftermarket and get one that looks the same no matter where it tightens up.Not many automatic shift knobs that look good IMO.Was also going to mention that when I had a '93 Ford Escort wagon I noticed that about 30% of Escort wagons had the roof rack mounted like mine, the other 70% had them mounted the opposite direction.

Okay then, I turned the knob back 180 degrees. I am luckly it still feels that it is tightly on but not by much I will add.

I don't believe there is a right or wrong. You can turn it to the side if you wish, it's your car.I have mine like the first picture for a specific reason. I installed three power ports in the slot just forward of the knob. The knob towards the rear provides a little extra clearance. Personally I'd like to shorten it by a couple inches and install a smaller knob. On the other hand I can't understand why we have to live with that stupid thing in the first place. It is an automatic and shifting is controlled by the computer. Chrysler had dash mount push button transmissions in the 1960's.

Give it time. I'm sure their will be a car that all you do is type in a GPS location and take a nap. I saw a commercial the other day for a car that doesn't shift. I'm sure it shifts somehow, but you don't notice it or hear it. I don't think the pure electric cars shift either. Not sure what car it was. It would be hard to do away with a shifter knob all together though. Maybe a touch screen or a joy stick?
