Scrapyards and power package

Just out of curiosity, why doesn't scrapyards agree to sell you power windows or power locks? I've ask a few scrapyards about selling me power windows or/and power locks and they told me that they cannot sell me electric stuff... why?

They usually want to sell the doors intact. There are quite a few yards around me, and usually the only way they will sell the components is if the door is too badly damaged to sell. Or you have to get lucky at a pick and pull yard where you can pull your own parts. They don't care as much.Have you looked on http://www.car-part.com? There are a few places listed on there in Canada with power door regulators, motors, etc. But you can expect to spend like $100 per door, probably more, for just the windows. There are also several places on ebay that are parting out Vibes. They just list like one part in the ad, but show the complete car in the pics. Maybe ask some of them? But your best bet is to find someone parting out a power package Vibe. Have you checked with the guy on here parting out the Vibe?

trb is right about the scrap yards being stingy on door parts. I have pursued this option for a while since my latest vibe had manual everything.i found 2 places through ebay that had cars they would gut the doors for me. I got hung up on the body harness cost though since it was a lot of labor to remove it. It is possible if you contact those companies and barter a deal. The more you pack into it as a package, the more likely it will be worth their time to break it all down for you. 90% of the places only want to sell complete doors.

It might be a liability issue as to why they cannot sell electrical things. Same as it being illegal to sell a used mattress.

Nah the only thing they cannot sell is a cat convertor(at least in Maryland)They most likely want to sell the whole door. I only deal with pick n pull yards and you can buy whatever

I agree that they want to sell the entire door. It doesn't have anything to do with laws or anything like that. The two local places I used to go to all the time are 'U Pull It' yards. It's a great deal. At both yards, you pay $2.00 to get in the yard and you can get whatever you want off any car/s (you obviously have to pay for whatever parts you get in addition to the $2.00 yard charge). The guys at both yards got to know me so well, they wouldn't charge for smaller parts i.e. interior pieces, etc. which was nice or they wouldn't charge me to get in. I guess they thought it was cool that a girl was going there by herself to get stuff . Needless to say I haven't had any reason to go to the yards since I've had the Vibe. I kind of miss it actually. It was neat to see all the different kinds of vehicles and how they were smashed up, burnt, etc. Not to mention some of the weird s**t you'd find that was left behind in some of the vehicles .

I dont think so because some other parts on the cars also electric and they still sells it. I think that the main reason why scrapyards doesnt want to sell power package is because they want to sell the whole door.

Scrapyards are awesome when it comes to replace broken parts. But it sucks that you cannot retrieve yourself. I looking for a Pick-It-Up-Yourself yards nearby Montreal, Quebec and there is none...

I think that if you want install the power package into your car, it will be less expensive if you pull-it out yourself instead of paying someone to do it. Plus, if you pull it out, you then know how to put it back. Less labor work, less money spend. Its just ridiculous how labor work is much more expensive than the part itself...

Never seen any of this kind around... but you could try Lecavalier in St-Sophie or St-Jean that's usually my go to place for all my cars...While writing this post I did some research for RTA Auto and it's former competitor just across the street, Nord-Sud... It seems that you can explore the junkyard for only 2 bucks: http://www.nord-sud.ca/store/p...ge=enA lot of other affiliated junkyards on the website also.I just might drop there to have a look within the next weeks

I went to Nord-Sud last Friday and there were nothing for Vibe, Matrix, nor Corolla 2003/2008... The guy at the counter told me that Vibe are recent cars so theres nothing for it. He sent me to another scrapyard and they told me that it can only be pull out by them and that I have to buy the entire door which cost approx $350-400!!.... per door!!!!!!!!!I think Im gonna find someone who is parting his Vibe... unless theres another pull it out yourself scrapyard near Montreal, Im gonna try to find someone on this forum who might be generous :$
