Who here will... will be the last owner of an old Vibe say 15 years from now?I say I will....

I won't. I hope not anyway.

Vibby will probably be retrofit with a GM Ecotec, and will live as my weekend car. By the time I'm 32, I hope to have a family, something wagony, and GM. Given 15 years my tastes will change, and I don't know what personal responsibility will call for, but if I'm still single at that time I'll probably actually have a Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ. Or a used Volt.

I've thought about this too...good thread idea.I hope to be the last 03-04 on the road (that I see). Me having the last 03-08 in the Ottawa area doesn't seem like a stretch considering how I'm taking great care of mine, its always garage kept, and only putting 18,000-22,000 Kms on every year. Even if my current Vibe somehow doesn't make it another 10 years, I'd probably go shopping for an elderly garage-find 03-08, and transfer any useful remaining mods over.

Ironically, I was thinking the same thing, but did not start the thread. How long do some of you think GenVibe will last?

If our 03 hadn't been totaled in an accident last year, no question we would still have it, and be keeping it for quite a while. By far the best car we've ever owned for practicality, comfort, efficiency and reliability. I'm getting another 03 tomorrow, which needs a new engine. I imagine once I get it all back together and remember how much we loved our Vibe, this new one will be around for quite some time too. We currently have 1 kid, likely to have a second at some point in the near future. We plan to get some form of a minivan once kid #2 arrives, the Vibe will probably be our eternal second car. About the only thing that I would replace it with would be the new Prius-V. That seems like a good potential car for the same purpose, with even better mpg. But no rush on that.

My plan is to drive the Vibe till its dies, but I dont think it will last another 15 years with all the driving I do LOL

We plan on having our Vibes for a long time.We hold onto our vehicles forever because we become very attached to them . Case in point our 1994 Pontiac Sunbird LE Sedan that my parents bought brand new on January 1, 1994. It's our extra car that currently has 266,xxx miles on it. It still runs like a champ . My dad bought his 2001 s10 in the fall of 2000. It has around 26x,xxx miles on it and still runs great .

Hmm, that would make the car about 30 years old... Sure, why not - if it hasn't rusted away by then... If current trends keep up, it would only have 190,000 miles on it at that point.

Probably not me... all technology is changing so fast, cars included. The '09 vibe was the best (of non-hybrid hatchbacks) in a balance of good horsepower, good mpgs, and good reviews/usability. Nowadays there are several cars that blow this thing out of the water in specs (more power than the vibe for less gas, with better fit and finish and technology in the interior) and I'm sure it a couple years there will be even MORE of a difference. I'm guessing in about four years both Chris and I will have replaced our vehicles... though I will be sad to see it go, because it was my first.

I do love my Vibe. She has served me well since 2004. But she's just getting a bit small for me and my family. Seems my kids just want to keep growing up and getting bigger. Gonna be moving into something bigger before too long. Not sure what just yet... Until then, the plain old looking Abyss Vibe with blower whine will continue to keep on rolling.Pat

I'd like to keep mine at least until I get my bachelors degree. After that, I'll probably hang onto it until the student loan is paid off, maybe upgrading a few things along the way. If it's still in good shape by then and I'm ready to move on to another car, my little brother will be close to driving age and maybe I can pass the torch to him.

It may not be a choice any of us have. The way the energy world is changing and at such a rapid pace, I seriously doubt that Gasoline will be a viable fuel for much more than 10 or 15 years. What will replace gasoline? I don't know but I lean heavily towards electric generated in some form as we drive.Classic cars and the gasoline that once fueled them will become a curiosity with the ability to purchase gasoline limited to but a few. Not unlike trying to purchase leaded gasoline on todays market for highway use.Leaded fuel is available today to boaters and race cars. There is a stiff penalty for running this fuel in a highway automobile, even if it was built in the 50's or 60's and requires it!! Gasoline will most likely become hard to find and you'll be required to be running antique plates and only be able to purchase it in limited quantities, possibly like the gasoline coupons of WWII...... only digital using your future yet to be invented incredibly super super smart phone.Dave

I say convert her to 'lectric! That is a very valid point though... Oil is on the way out, there's just not enough left (and it's sad that with the tremendous gains in technology over the last century we haven't made reasonable progress to distance ourselves from the crap IMHO...)

Maybe this is why the oil rich countries are charging so much for oil. They're going to be in trouble when oil does finally run out.

Ponta2147, Djkeev:Took the words right out of my mouth. I did not post earlier because I did not want to hurt any ones feelings. I hope I am not the last one with a Vibe, especially as a primary vehicle. The only reason it would happen would be purely financial. If it comes to that, I might be better off buying a good horse and a couple pack mules and head for the mountains because gas is not going to get any cheaper. Just call me Jeremiah 10vibe at that point.
