So I took advantage of the GM 24 hour test drive today, and was put in an incredibly large Hummer H2. Living in Orlando with all the Pop sensations cuising around in Escalades, Bentleys, and that new Porsche Thing, I figured I'd join the elite for the day. The first thing I noticed was how imense it looked from the outside. So I guess $60, the list price of the model I was in, you're paying something like $1.50 a pound. As I climbed into the suprisingly not so spacious cockpit I noticed the very GM appearance of the gauges and dash equipment. The only thing I thought was super cool was the F-14 like Throttle Control (i.e. shifter). This of course wore off after shifting into reverse and trying to back-up. Not only was the rear window so tiny... but the spare tire (larger than the largest man I know) blocked half the window. Once I finally get moving I notice the following. For such a large vehicle it was surprisingly responsive. Much quicker then I originally imagined... however I definately filled my entire lane. Looking out the windows, I felt like I was in a car that had the top chopped. My largest suprise was watching the gas guage dive towards empty every time I floored it. I was told that it only take 87 octane... great... but it wasn't like a rental agreement, I didn't have to return it full.So after sweating a little as I zipped through the toll plaza's worried about scraping something, I began to do what all of you driving an H2 for a day would do.... I looked for a place to go off-road. Damn why does Florida have to be so flat.After bouncing across speed bumps and curbs in the urban jungle I found a construction zone near the office and it was game time. This is where the true beauty of the beast was released. After 30 minutes of flying up hills, and screaming through ditches I figured I better get back to work... and I concluded my drive with the hardest manuver of all... parking.So what did I think? Besides the very simplistic, typical GM Interior... horrendous gas milage... Mac Truck like domination of highway lanes... and off-road domination (handy considering 98% of the USA is paved) I came to this conclusion...If they don't finish the repair work on my Vibe soon... I'm investing in a bus pass!So from here on out Hammer Down and Look Out for Smokey... and that's the way it is...

excelent review, but you dont get the full effect of the hummer till you add all the bling bling the 24" chrome rims and the tv's inside and playstation all that cool stuff you see on mtv cribs and such

There nice, but i see more H2's then Vibes around my town. People have too much money.

The Hummer is a complete waste of earthly resources.

I guarantee you that most people who you see driving the H2 are leasing them, and spending way beyond their means. The odd thing that I saw was a roofing company using an H1 as it's ladder truck. Not exactly something you see every day running the streets in Orange County New York.Later all.

That would be a good way to advertise the company. Hummer's always attract attention.

Yeah but the H2 is really only a GMC 1500. I mean for the price, I don't quite get it. The Real Hummer is pretty cool as it's got solid mount diff's for clearance and all that good tech (even though I don't personally like them) that makes it a capable vehicle but the H2 is (to me) just more 'badge engineering' from GM. Also, I believe (someone may want to check on this as it's second hand info) they've got a terrable reliablity rating.For the "TRUK" thing, give me a good ole 1500 4x4 short box and a wee lift kit.. just my opinion

not to step on your toes, but the H2 is a hell of a lot more than just a 1500 and a new body. While it does have parts of a 1500 frame it also has framework from the 2500 and some other vehicle specific parts.

Okokok, it's a GMC 2500... I still don't get the whole H2 thing. The Hummer was a purpose built vehicle that used a GM diesel engine and was a very capable and interesting machine. The H2 is too Bling Bling for me - more marketing than design. I realize some really like H2 type vehicles however this is just my opinion... and my opinion has been called into question not a few times by my friends
