Anybody know of a leather shift boot for 09-10 automatics? Think a manual one might work?

One thing I don't like about the 09-10 cars is the gated shifter. Just plain Ugly - IMO the way it sticks up. But then I'm partial to manual transmissions anyways. If I had a choice, I would have bought a manual Vibe, but the family overruled me on that.I've seen pics of a few manual trans vibes, and they have a boot that fits the whole shifter area. So I'm wondering if I should try and find a manual trans console cover and try it out. Not like I need the PRND-S indicator since it is also in the dash display. I did see the Redline leather replacement boots, and I might try one, but I would also need a manual shift knob to match it. It looks like the shifter plate is separate from the surrouding trim, so maybe I'll pull it out this weekend. There are a few 09-10 vibes in the local salvage yards, maybe I can get lucky and one will be a manual trans that I could pull everything from.

I would try to snag a manual shift boot and anything else you may need from a junkyard if possible and give it a try. Worst that can happen is it won't work.I used a manual shift boot on my former automatic Sunfire. It did look much better, but I don't really mind the shifter area on the Vibe, especially since I replaced the black shift indicator bezel with the 2010 silver one .

Yes, I saw your thread on the swap, that is what started me thinking about it. My concerns are will there be enough slack in the boot to move the shift lever up to park, and will the manual shift ball fit the automatic lever. Oh well, I think I can try and make it fit. :D I've put all kinds of later model (94-04) Mustang parts on my old 87, so this should be a piece of cake.

I've seen similar things done, but never tried it myself. One would think you would need a much larger shift boot than the stock one to compensate for it being dragged all the way up and down. That and everyone's gonna wonder why you're always parking in 3rd. Otherwise, I'm all for it and I'd like to see it.

The Redline Goods one looks to have more slack. If I think it will fit with my base, I might just order that one and then get a manual shift knob.Plus they have all of their leather parts for Vibes on sale right now. Maybe I will get my car a Christmas present? http://www.redlinegoods.com/Vibe09shiftboot.shtm

You could probably have Redline finish off the ball-end of the boot as just an open hole - and then it is free to slide down the shaft as needed. That's the way the old cars used to do it.
