The next "Vibe"?

I just got this in an email from Ford, promoting their new 2013 Escape that is coming out next year. Looks like a cousin to the Vibe I think, especially the windows, roofline and even the interior IMO.http://www.ford.com/suvs/escape/2013/ht ... 3....htmlI might have to look at it to replace our Exploder in a couple of years.

That is hideous.

LOL! Yeah, I don't like the front that much, but then again I didn't really like the 2009 Vibe, nor the 2005 or 2010 Mustangs when they came out either. Some things just have to grow on you. It is based on the Focus, which is a bit smaller than the Vibe. This is a decent bit bigger.

looks like they mushed the Focus and the Edge together and gave it a familiar name... looking at the 2012 Edge, and this and the Focus, they're really saturating the market to me, three versions of the same car, S, M and L.

I don't think it's hideous, but that's probably because it's the Titanium trim level. I can't imagine how stripped down the lowest of the low will look. Back end reminds me of a Tribeca a bit. Meh. Not bad, not great.

I think it looks really good ! But not better than a paid off Vibe LOL. Styling always seems to grow on me as well, but the tailights on the the 2011 Mustang are still kinda yukky....

Hmmmm..... NO!No stick shift, it's fate is sealed in my books! The 2012 base model loss leader starts at $20K. Want more then that Duratec 2.5L boat anchor, prepare to open up that wallet!!! For the price you'd pay for a 4wd version and the over-options that go with it you could have a nicely equipped Subaru... or a Focus ST with all the trimmings!!!

I am underwhelmed by this Escape. I disagree that it is awful, but there are many better looking vehicles out there in the same class.Does look like a bulked up Fiesta or Focus.I do agree that the current Escape is much better looking, even if boxy is no longer in style.

that think looks like an abortion of a baby between and explorer and a focus.designers need to understand that a large departure is not always a better idea. They keep this up and they are on their way to challenging the Aztec for the ugliest car ever made.

Looks cool. But when/if I replace the vibe with a ford, I'd go with the focus

The front end has too much "plain plastic" and gives it a cheap look. Side profile is pretty sharp Not crazy about the rear end though. The new Toyota Prius resembles our 09-10 Vibes a lot from the rear end only. Saw it in a commercial and had to do a double take to verify that it wasn't a Vibe

I like the look, although the trapezoidal grill is a bit much... It's also somewhat of a shame that it looks so much like the new Focus as well. This reminds me of what Mitsubishi did with the Outlander when they redesigned it to share the same nose as the Lancer Evolution. Didn't transfer so well in my opinion.

I'd have to agree with @Camogirl. It's definitely just a Focus and an Edge mushed together. I can see where your coming from in saying that it could be something that is in the same idea as the Vibe, but nobody could ever replace the VIBE's that we know. Plus, they are paid off. Vibe's for the win!

Drove one (kind of) last summer

While on a business trip to Germany/Luxembourg last summer, I had the opportunity to drive one of these, a Ford Kuga, which I've heard is the same model, but with different styling tweaks. Mine was a 2.0-liter diesel. Got it up to about 195kph on the autobahn. Personally I like the look of the Kuga I drove better than the new Escape's styling.

Passed one of these on the freeway this morning:

2013 BMW x-1

http://www.bmwusa.com/standard/content/ ... 28iRD.aspx

looks like they copied the 09-10 Vibe and then uglied it up.

And raised the price by at least 50%. BMW maintenance is not cheap either.

I'm not a fan of the design change. The one thing the escape had going for it was that it was the only compact suv that had truck resembleance.

I'm a fan of he x1. I've seen a few this past week around LA.

I like the new Escape, except for the price tag... And that one has to sit upon slaughtered animals to get that nifty kick to open hatch thing.

The C-Max seems like a great Vibe replacement, moreso than the Escape IMHO. I could live with 47 MPG but once again I don't like the price. Granted, how I saw Toyota had the nerve to put $23k on the sticker of a Matrix still rockin' the steelies, I suppose the $26-$27k for a nicely equipped C-Max is a freakin' bargain in comparison.
