Last week the dreaded light popped up. CHECK ENGINE. UGHHHH !!! Last saturday I disconnected the negative battery cable and cleaned the MAF. The MAF wasnt really dirty but i checked my maintenance log & last time I cleaned it was 17K ago. Anyhow, I cleaned it up, reconnected the negative terminal & it has been 7 day and no CEL......YAY !Not sure it was that I cleaned up the MAF sensor or reset the computer. Either way no CEL.....YET! What do you guys think? Also I did check my gas cap in an attempt to clear it before I cleaned the MAF.

Did you check the code BEFORE it was cleared? Most Auto Parts store will do it for free. I'm glad you don't have the CEL but you aren't out of the woods yet. There maybe be a "pending" code that may be waiting to pop up again. I'd run it by the parts store and have them check it just to make sure.

Thanks. I was going to have the code checked, but I thought for the time it takes me to get to the advance auto....I figured I would just try to clear it myself in less time....LOL. I understand that it may possibly come up again, will definitely have it checked before I try clearing it.

I would also check and see how your O2 sensors are, i did everything to my vibe trying to figure it out because it kept coming up as a blank code and saying that nothing was wrong with it and it wound up being my first O2 sensor.

That's great! However read the code before you clear it next time. So at least you have a log on it.

No panel to remove. The OBDII port is just under the dash near the drivers left knee.

Ok. I had it checked at the Advance Auto by my place. PO442 - Evaporative Emission ControlSystem Leak detected (smallleak) The serviceman said check the gas cap & asked if I close it till it clicks 3 times. I always do. I removed the gas cap, let it clicked 4 times. We shall see what that does...
