Dealer called me today and told me that the oil pump went up. This could mean a new engine.

Yikes! Any good reason why the oil pump failed, or just defective? Hope that didn't do any permanent damage to the engine

That sucks. Let us know if they tell you a cause for the pump going south. I know you have alot of mods, are they going to try to deny the warranty or will they pay for the new engine?

Damn that sucks. At least you might get a new engine out of it.

They are asking me about my pulleys (Unorthodox Racing) but I called Unorthodox and they said they will back me that the pulleys have nothing to do with the oil pump going bad.

So for the fun of discussion. If the oil pump is driven off the front of the crankshaft, and someone has replaced some of the pulley units, why couldn't they be related? This could get interesting.

Why would they be related? The pump still turns off of the pulley. The pulleys have been on there for 7,000 miles.

This could get interesting.I really wanted to avoid this, but...I don't know about the Unorthodox kit, but one oft noted issue is the removal of the harmonic damper with installation of underdrive pulleys and the resulting damage to the crankshaft and bearings. The reason I wanted to avoid this topic is the fact that these claims are hottly contested, but this seems like a touch more than coincidence.I'd hate to see someone have the warranty denied on a fataly damaged engine, but this does make me wonder.Either way, good luck on getting this fixed quickly and cheaply BocaJ. Hopefully it turns out for the best and you're back on the road soon!

Boca -- did we ever find out what the deal is? What's going on?

quote:Hmm, maybe I will skip some of those pulleys then. Well, don't set back too quick. There's evidence to support both sides of the argument. While some people have problems following installation, some don't, or at least don't appear to. I just wanted to bring the potential to light given Boca's issue and the increased interest in the pulleys.

I know a s.b.c. doesn't like to run long w/o a harmonic balancer.

The pulleys have been on there for 7,000 miles.First off, the earlier posts in this topic didn't include your mileage since installation. But again that isn't a good thing. For example, if wheels are overtorqued, it is possible for a brake rotor warp pulsation to show up 3,000-5,000 miles later. Same could be true here. It has taken a while for the pump to fail. Keep us updated.

Everything is being covered by warrenty. It is going to be rebuilt. It should be done by end of next week. Crank, cams, bearings, piston rings are getting replaced. One thing I must say I use Amsoil oil and I drove probably half hour with 2 pnds of oil pressure and not once heard one rattle in the engine. Even the mechanic thats working on my car said the damage should have been much worst. So props to Amsoil.
