So I recently replaced the fuel filter in the tank. I'm relocating 3k miles away w/ no tools or garage, so I've been doing maintenance on my car for the trip. I've replaced in-line filters before without issues. I'm glad I did this, because the old filter was literally black (new one is white inside). However, now its got a hard-start issue. So I installed it following the directions posted on these forums and it was a snap to do. I put the key in and keyed it on/off a few times to prime the line. Got everything started without too much trouble. The car ran great, so I rode it down to the station and filled her up and added fuel system cleaner to the tank. The next day, I cranked the car but it didn't start, like it had no fuel. I had to do this a few times and she started up. I've been driving her all day, but any time I turn the car off and try to restart, there is a slight hesitation (like an extra few cranks). The longer it sits, the worse it seems. If I key the car on and let it sit for 5 seconds before cranking, the car starts with no hesitation. To me, I think this is some sort of bleeding in the system. However, could it be air trapped in the line? Should I drive it and let it resolve itself? Could it be the fuel system cleaner (Techron)? Also, where is the shrader valve to bleed the line under the hood? I need a better way to de-pressurize the fuel lines.

I followed these directions:http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=37065Mostly the PDF file posted. It was mostly self explanatory though.

Cost me $40 from NAPA. I'm going to crack the old one open today with an axe or something and take pictures. The filter was literally black after filtering fuel for 39k miles.I figured out my problem today. I took the fuel assembly apart today and put it back together, everything looked perfect. However, this was one of those cases where you are working on X, thinking about X, you encounter a problem and assume it was X. Turns out my battery died while working on the fuel filter. It was a hard start because the voltage was low and smoothed out once the engine turned over and the alternator did its job. I noticed the lights were dimmer today and tested the battery with my voltmeter and got 7 volts. Sears tested it, bad cells. $110 new battery and the car started like a dream.Go figure.
