Door check "fix"

When I bought my Vibe the driver's door check was broken. I took the door panel off and salvage the part. I had a friend weld it back together and re installed it. To my disappointment, I found I then had the "door check in the way of the window rolling down" problem. Tonight, I pulled it apart, ground off the corner, per other threads on this site. When I put it back together and tested it, it was apparent that the check could still get in the way in some cases. I needed some way to make sure the check always swung to the interior of the door to be sure. My fix is probably the most embarassing fix I've ever done (as I consider myself a shade tree professional). I drilled a hole in the door skin and installed a couple of rubber bands from my morning newspaper to draw the check to the interior of the car. This will prevent the check from blocking the window and also from making the 'rattle' sound when the window is in the down position. Below is a pic. Try not to laugh too hard. I expect I will need to replace the bands every few months due to the temp extremes that the rubber will see.http://rides.webshots.com/phot...dAZhf

Hey you worked with what you had on hand! You could replace thet rubber band with a throttle return spring from a parts store the next time you have it apart.
