car dies when slowing

I have an 03 GT with about 215k on it...bought it new with 10 miles on it and only issues so far have been timing chain and the clutch...replaced the spark plugs a couple of years ago with oem parts so they should be fine. Today when driving about 50 mph I slowed to turn onto a side road and as soon as I started the turn the steering got really heavy and I noticed the car died...I immediately put it in neutral and it restarted and I continued driving with no problem....then about 20 mins later I was slowing to a stop (in a straight line, not turning) and it died again....it restarted fine again and drove with no issues. It accelerates and idles smoothly. I realize since everything is still original on the car (don't usually replace stuff until it fails) that it could be anything but I suspect either the fuel pump or fuel filter. It has only done it twice so I can't really reliably duplicate the conditions that cause it but only seems to happen when I am slowing down. When I got home I checked the battery terminals and they're tight and air filter is clean....maybe it just needs some fuel cleaner ran through the tank but it seems it would run rough if that was the case. Any ideas? Just replace the fuel filter and pump? I don't know if the fuel pump goes out intermittently or all at once.....Any suggestions appreciated! Thanks!Davedavehatch@embarqmail.com
