You used to be able to buy these for $1.49-1.99 for a pack of 4. They were the best to keep beverages cold. Now you can't find them anywhere. even on-line. I wonder if the govt. outlawed them for environmental reasons or something. I have two left that are about shot.

I agree it is more durable - but IMO doesn't have the insulating efficiency of styrofoam. I still think there must have been some tree hugger govt. intervention.

Doubt it was outlawed, but who knows. Honestly, styrofoam IS horrible for the environment... is it worth it to keep drinks slightly colder... think the market decided it wasn't.

I remember them as getting "icky" fairly quick. The white styrofoam would readily accept the soil from ones hands and turn black. The foam would chip away and the overall effect after a few uses was a rather OCD inducing... EW!!!!This may be one of the major factors in it's replacement with closed cell foam products.Dave

It would take a couple month's for mine to get that way - the last few I had I covered first with clear plastic tape. I like my beverage of choice "cold" and these styrofoam holders would keep it that way for a long time. Nothing else works as well. Styrofoam is still used for keeping stuff frozen when shipping - e.g. Omaha Steaks.

Three guys were talking about the greatest inventions of man. The first said he thought it was the airplane because of the impact it had on transportation. The second said he thought it was the microprocessor because of the impact on all of technology. The third said he thought the greatest invention was the Thermos bottle. The other two said, "The Thermos bottle?! Why? All it does it keep hot things hot and cold things cold." The third replied, "But how do it know?"

beer koozies aren't for keeping your beer ice cold, they are for preventing your hand from becoming ice cold.

I think it's time you hit up some yard/garage sales!!! I've seen them around... usually for 50cents or so.
