There has been some discussion of the Vibe odometer's collapse at 299,999k.For two months I have been in discussion with GMCanada pres Kevin Williams on this matter.I presently have an 04 Vibe which incorrectly shows 299,999k. This means that I can not legally re-licence or sell the car, as accurate mileage is required for both purposes, and neither GM, MoT nor I can tell what that is.GM cannot thus far propose a fix for this problem - replacement of odom would be feasible, accurate and legal in only cases where vehicles have not yet reached the limit.So unless Mr Williams can develop another solution, he owes me a new, legal replacement vehicle.I've asked him to call by the end of the week. If his response isn't up to the mark, I expect to initiate a media campaign to get GM to provide Vibe owners with legal vehicles.Anyone interested in that?

In Ohio we can just check the box that says "The odometer reading is not the actual mileage." The whole idea is to prevent misrepresentation of actual mileage to the buyer. I find it hard to believe that there is not something similar in Canada.There is also a box for "The mileage stated is in excess of the mechanical limits." I am not really sure what that means.At this point there is no way you could know the real mileage anyway even if GM put in a new odometer. Good luck with getting a new, legal replacement vehicle. I am a generally a consumer advocate type, but in this case I think you are making a mountain out of a mole hill. I am sure others will disagree with me on that.

Someone on this site got GM (or Toyota) to address this issue and had it fixed (I thought). May want to try some searches and see what comes up....I'm 200K away...lol

There are always little technicallities that you can use to side step this. Past the mechanical limits is one of them.

Unfortunately, in Ontario failing to report accurate mileage on a car is a fine worthy offense. Also if there is an inoperable odometer when the mechanic safeties the vehicle some of them may not pass it.

I hope you find a solution to this issue, but I am also of the mind that... well... we're lucky to have such a problem. 300,000 mile (or km for you) on the odo! If you are selling it, just how much were you hoping to get? If you're just trying to get it re-licensed, there *must* be others who have successfully gone through the process with faulty odometers that read inaccuracies before. Someone should be able to steer you in the right direction, legally. And, no pun intended.
