I am amazed that members of society have removed themselves yet again farther away from actual interaction!"STUDY, FEWER THAN 50% OF SMART PHONE USERS MAKE CALLS"
http://techland.time.com/2011/...calls/I was actually stunned when I read this.As a certified old fart, I dislike texting, I do it, but I would much rather just talk to you.Dave

Phones are supposed to make calls? Are you sure about this?

Okay, in my defense, I am a meek, slightly shy, social outcast. Texting is the only way I can put my thoughts down intelligibly and without mispronunciation.

Dj, I remember when the only thing cell phones did WAS make phone calls. And I'd go almost a week on a single charge...

I like texting only for a short message which doesn't necessarily require a call."Be there in 5 minutes.""Call me when you get home."etc. etc.And apparently, kids are using their smart phones to replace desktop and laptop computers altogether.

I text a lot because I'm always going going going, and mostly I don't have time for long conversations, if I do, it's face to face quality time with the individuals. I like to say hey, ask a quick question, or whatever. It's more communicating than would get done if I couldn't text.

I text more than anything, browsing the web and social networks, and talking last. Since most of my life now is spent in the class room, talking is not easy. The only time needed for a phone call is when there is a long important convo. Anything else can wait, or just be send in a text.

I text my landlord.I text my friends.I facebook my Dad.I skype my Mom.I call my Girlfriend.Generally if it's going to take more then 3 texts to get the message across, I call. Besides, it's much easier to chat on speakerphone while driving then it is to text!

You mean no one learned in school about Alexander Graham Bell sending that famous FIRST text message on March 10, 1876: "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."Followed a few seconds later by the much less famous SECOND text message "But we could just webcam later tonight, if my stupid laptop will work long enough to get on the internet without dropping the WiFi connection."Then there's the famous Winston Churchill quote: "Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to re-tweet it."
