CAI/SR install quandary

Last night I, after much effort and a bit of bracket fabrication, installed a custom Spectre intake (autozone tubes) that I pulled from my old 99 corolla. I triple checked that all my hoses were connected and sensors plugged in. Nothing that was supposed to be attached somewhere was loose. I even made some brackets from aluminum flat to bolt the EVAP valves down. So everything looks great, I turn the key, engine starts, sucks in air and quits. I pulled the brackets off thinking it possible that the valves shouldn't have a ground and was causing an issue, though more likely I'd get a CEL for evap right? I tried giving it gas as soon as it started and it roughly kept going but as soon as I let off the pedal, nada. Fed up, almost out of light and needing a car for today, I put the stock box back on and it runs perfectly. At this point I have only one idea what may have caused this. Does the positioning of the MAF have anything to do with idle/throttle control to the point where, if the sensor is turned the wrong way the car may start but won't continue to run? This is the same setup that my corolla had plus one 60 degree bend. From the TB, 60 deg. bend, MAF port, 90 deg. bend, vacuum hose port, cone filter. If I bother to try it again I'll post a pic of the set upThanks
