03 AWD vibe won't move

Hey guys, I have an auto 03 awd vibe with ~175k miles and it won't move when in any gear at all. Before this all happened, the car would make a high pitched kind of whine only when i was on the gas and would stop when i took my foot off the gas. I was on the freeway when all of this was happening, and as soon as i exited and reached a stop sign, the car wouldn't move in drive or reverse anymore. It would only rev up. I started the car up again the day after and tried to move it to the front of my house, and it magically worked again, but only for about 5 seconds, then there was once again no power, but only in reverse. When in reverse, the car feels as if it's in park and would only rev up to 2.5k RPM. When i put it in Drive you can hear the *thump* as it engages in the gear. Any suggestions/help would be appreciated.

Fluid level? Sounds like very low transmission fluid or something in the valve body is fubar!

Sounds like when the trans in my Heep went out... I had 1st gear only and it wouldn't get up to full speed in that gear, felt bogged down like you describe. I had to be replaced...

I'm sorry for replying so many times, but I feel like this shouldn't be an edit. It turns out it was NOT the ECU, it was actually LED taillights/brakelights I had put in. For whatever reason, the difference in resistance caused my computer to "lose communication" with my transmission. This caused my ECU to malfunction, but the dealership said it was reset and we took the bulbs out after two weeks of trying to figure this out and sure enough it did it!
