Headlight Vibration

I noticed the other day that when idling my headlights vibrate like crazy. You can see the cutoff from the projectors bouncing. I checked the projectors are tight so what could cause this. Its driving me nuts. If I give it a tiny bit of gas and increase the RPM it stops. Its only when at idle sitting at a light or something. Also, any tips to adjust the DS headlight without removing the battery, adjusting then putting it back in?

Remove the cap on the back of the headlight and check to see if the bucket moves. If the bucket moves, it could be three things the bucket came out of the ball socket, the ball socket has broken or there is just so much slop in the ball socket that the vibration will only be fixed if you open it up and add some silicone on the ball socket to stiffen up the mount location. You could always wedge something under the reflector bucket to keep the vibration to a min.

Thanks Keith. That looks like the problem. I'll pop the light out.tomorrow. How do you turn off auto lights at the drive in? I tried the e-brake but when I started the car the lights still came on.

Yeah, I disabled the DRL's, and got the sensor to turn on the lights. But At night starting the car still turns on the headlights. Usually you can set the parking brake and start the car and the lights wont turn on. But mine still do. I am thinking ill throw a switch in the sensor mod.

Kieth, is there a way to tighten the ball socket or w.e without opening up the light?

afraid not. When you take the headlight off... shake it... if you hear a rattle. Most likely the ballsocket broke. IMO if it broke buy a new light, you can try to fix them, I have. I have about a 60% fix rate. It's made from cheap plastic.

LOLI know you like your auto lights, but if you go to the drive in often you might want to add a switch in to your set up as you suggested above.

My wife loves to go to the drive-in. She is good at pointing out I get to see 2 movies for less than the cost of 1 at the theaters. So I guess its worth it. I did realize I should throw a switch in the angel eyes too. They are set to come on with the stereo and I don't know if it annoyed anyone but they were on for the whole movie.

Finally had time and this is now fixed. The bucket wasnt on one of the studs. Popped the light apart and fixed it pretty quick. Whoohoo!

When I was a teenager and went to the drive-in I got to see 0 movies for the price of 1. But it was worth it! My gosh, that's been 50 years ago!
