Installing factory fog lights?

Ok, so when I got my Vibe back in '09, the AWD I really wanted at the dealer had all the nice options...moonroof, alloys, fog lights, etc. Long story cut short, I ended up with the one I have, still love this one though.Anyway, I did a search and saw that a couple owners here have retrofitted the factory fog lights to their '09/10 Vibe that didn't have them and I was thinking of doing the same with mine. I didn't really get much info from the posts that I saw other than the whole light 'kit' is a dealer item, and the necessary changes to the electricals. So, my question is...there are a couple custom auto accessory/detailing shops here in Plattsburg that I've had do work in the past on my other cars with great results. Should I just go to them, explain what I want done, have them fuss with ordering the parts and let them install it? I'd appreciate your thoughts, JR

Personally, I would order all the parts myself online (i.e. GM Parts Direct or GM Parts Center) (you will save a ton over having the shop order parts for you) and then take all the parts and instructions (from here) to the shop and let them do all the wiring and all.

I agree with Carrie. Maybe ponta2147 will jump on and tell us exactly how she did hers. I think she let the dealer do it all

I figure this way if something gets messed up, it's totally their fault. Quote, originally posted by ponta2147 »The only reason they did it for me is because I walked in there with a list of the part numbers and photos of what the parts looked like, courtesy of GenVibe! If you're still under warranty, I would talk to a dealer about doing it. It may be kind of expensive, but it won't void your warranty which is important to most people. If you're not under warranty, then I'd go with my original suggestion.

Thank you both for the suggestions...that's why I love it here, help is always just a question away.My car is still under warranty, so I'll see what the dealer can come up with. It won't be right away, but I'll keep you posted. JR

So I took my Vibe to the dealer today for its annual inspection..well actually my wife took it as I was at work. She asked about the factory fog lights and was quoted $600-$700 for the dealer install . The service manager suggested an aftermarket kit??As mentioned, my car is under warranty and I really don't want to do anything that would void it. Any thoughts? JR

Any thoughts?Personally I would rather have OEM then aftermarket. Was the $600.00 - $700.00 parts and labor or just labor? My first suggestion would be to contact the same dealer yourself. They may have been trying to take advantage of your wife because she's a woman and they may think women know nothing about vehicles and therefore they can overcharge them because they don't know any better. Just a thought. My second suggestion would be to contact some other local GM dealers and see what they say. I'm sure this is something that would vary from dealer to dealer, so you may get a cheaper quote from another dealer.Last but not least, just wait until your warranty's up and install them yourself. From what I have read on here, it doesn't sound too complicated.

Thanks for your thoughts, Carrie. I agree with you that I definitely want the OEM rather than something that doesn't fit or needs modification. Not sure on the price quote if labor was included, I may try and get to the dealer on a Saturday and speak to them myself. There is another GM dealer north of here, I could try them as well.I got the extended warranty on my Vibe..7 years or 49,000 miles bumper to bumper. I've only put 16,000 miles on in two years, so waiting to install them myself would take a while . I'll update anything I find out. JR
