Flywheel cracked?

I have a 2003 vide AWD... about 2 months ago my flywheel had a little crack in it... i had a mechanic friend fix it and now it started making that noise again... my mechanic said something is causing the flywheel to crack?? does anyone have any clue or ideas on whats causing that????

Stick shift? Where is the crack and how big? Odd for a clutch flywheel to crack at all unless you're slipping the clutch A LOT and burning the sucker red hot! You'd smell that!!!Automatic, it's a flex plate. If the torque converter threw an internal bit or lost an external weight the balance would be out which would stress the flex plate and cause it to crack.Dave

Dave it is awd so it is an auto. At least you had a comment about what might be causing it

...the flex-plate could be "flexing" too much if all the bolts into the torque converter weren't torqued equally or one bolt has broken, etc....a peek thru the "inspection plate" should show something meaningful.
