Its most likely rust running down from the nut that holds the handle on. I had this problem too. I took the handle apart , changed out the gasket that has a nut sealed in it and voalla no more rust running down the door.

Can someone put up some more info? I have the same problem and how can I fix it? Start by taking the door panel off and go from there taking apart the handle?

Hi,
I fixed mine. What I had to do it's just to replace a plastic pad under the handle. The pad has a kind of a nut in it which gets rusty. I got my new pad from Toyota dealer (Toyota Matrix) coz they had it in stock and it was cheaper than from GM (Pontiac Vibe). Pictures attached.
