Sent Wrong CAI!!!!

Im really mad. I ordered the CAI from ptuning.com on wednesday night and it was shipped on thursday. After sitting in the ups warehouse 5 minutes away over the weekend (their closed over the weekend ) it got shipped to me today. I took stock air intake out, disconnected all the lines, and then put in the vibra mount, and fuse box braket. An hour later when im putting it in, I notice it doesnt fit right! The bracket that goes onto the vibramount wont go on and im positive its in the right spot, and the CAI tube wont clear the headlights or the fuse box. The red injen lettering isnt in the same place as other CAI pics on the vibe ( http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=1281 ), and I have a blue filter and black throttle body hose instead of red. I can't blame ptuning because its injens fault. It says that its an intake for the toyota matrix xrs/vibe gt on the box, and thats what i ordered. What to do?

Call ptuning and ask them what to do.

Silver's right. Chances are it's the right intake. My lettering is different too. It's a stamped plate bonded to the tube, is that similar to yours? I think they may have changed the angles a bit on the newer intakes to make them fit the Vibe better. The only evidence I have is that the only people who have had problems with them are the most recent installs, but it seems to make sense. The only tip I can offer is start by getting the tube down the hole by the headlamp. Once it's down there, then try to align it with the throttlebody. It won't install if you align it to the TB first. I had the same problem getting mine in and even had to remove it and start over a couple of time before it fit, but it's in now and working fine. As for the different color fittings, did you order a special colored CAI? The blue ones come with differeny filters. I suppose they may also have changed the color of the fittings now across the board too.

got my CAI today. checked the part list and it says part # rd2065 on the box. went thru the part list and everything seems to be there. my intake coller is red with a red filter and chrome pipe. this is for a base model.it is recommended you remove the bumper, is this nessesary or can you just loosen it up?

Shouldn't need to remove the bumper. I did the install on my GT removing nothing more than one screw affixing the fender liner to the bumper. Wouldn't have needed to, but it did make things easier. I'm sure the base is much the same.

no i ordered the chrome one it came with blue filter. Im almost positive its the wrong one because i had the whole thing in before. It goes in lol its not that i had it in there for like 20 minutes...the vibramount just wont line up with the braket for it, and the tube definitely wont clear the light assembly. Does anyone with a new CAI know the CARB number? maybe that way i can tell if its the same as mine.

CARB number on mine is D-476-3. That's what's stamped in the plate anyway. I've got the box in the garage, I can get the number on it too if you need.

thats the same carb number on mine. but would a different cai have a different carb number? It seems if i drill the hole for the vibra mount in a different spot i might be able to get it to fit. Dont know...shouldnt have to drill anything. But even if i do drill it i dont think it will clear the headlights. It just seems a little out of proportion...

quote:no millster, you thought you bought a GT, but you just got the badges Ha! Good one. Dmitri, I don't know. I know that I shoved the tube down past the headlight and wiggled it into place from there. It wouldn't fit onto the vibramount initially and when I crawled under the car to adjust the mount, my father grabbed the tube, wiggled it around a bit and it finally popped into place. From there it was just shifting and wiggling until it lined up with the throttlebody. The part number on my invoice from Ptuning is PTRD2075 and my intake box matches. As for the CARB number on other intakes, I've no idea. I would assume they're individual, but I can't confirm that.

i think it might be the same one just that they might have welded the bracket on in the wrong place. Should i send it back or just drill a hole myself.

If that's the case, I'd send it back. If you drill the hole yourself and something goes wrong (unlikely, but you never know) then you have no recourse. That and sending it back will maybe get them to properly address this problem in the future.

Well, that answers the CARB number question at least. Apparently they are all the same.

quote:Also, I believe Raging has a blue filter and a black throttle body piece...Maybe Raging should of mentioned that.. Blue Filter with Red Injen CAII am surprised RagingFish did not say anything to you about his was exactly the same.. He said he ordered the chrome one...I have the red.But I think they change up the colors to keep everyone's looking different...Anyway, make sure the vibramount IS in the right spot...there's two holes, a circular one, and an oval slot-like hole...it goes in the slotlike hole...and you can bend the vibramount to maneuver it into place...Honestly, I doubt you got the wrong one...I thought I had the wrong one at first...but it'll fit...trust us...

Great, glad to hear it! To get my filter on, I pulled one of the screws that held the fender liner onto the bumper then pulled back the fender liner. Gave me all the room I needed.Anyway, glad you got it in. Enjoy!!

I put the filter on right before I secured the tube to the throttle neck and secured everything -- not sure how I will remove the filter to clean it come the time...And I did remove the wheel well liner -- makes getting stuff in there SO much easier!
