I gave my son a 99 Mazda 626 it has 160K miles. Had put some money into this past fall (struts, tires, motor mounts, timing belt, water pump, intake gasket and etc.). It's not pretty but runs well and get 26-28 mpg. Well last Thursday he back into my Friends Car. It's an older Honda Accord but well kept up. Then today he ran it into the Ditch about 1 mile from the house. He wasn't hurt and didn't try fight the car out, which is good because there's been deaths with cars over turning. We called AAA and they got it then he drove it home. The roads do not have any shoulders around our rural home, they go from pavement to a 2-3ft ditch. So you are either on the road or in the ditch, no middle ground. Hopefully the damage isn't bad but I'm sure it'll add to the "character" of the car. My mom drove it and hit a few things then whe she quit driving. I bought it as a DD for a few years and I could care less about the dents or the paint. It gets 28MPG.

Well after checking out the damage it bent the lower left radiator support, another support behind it and tore out the front plastic fender well. The radiator looks fine, the car drove fine/no pulling and the same for the brakes. Looks like nothing a 5 lbs hammer, wire ties and glue can't fix. He went into the ditch on the left side (yes crossed traffic) going about 25 mph and then hit a drainage pipe, under a driveway straight on. Because it rained so much I'm sure it slowed him down a lot. He was trying to reach for a pencil on the floor board. I'm sure it'll add more character to the car and hopefully remind him how dangerous these roads are.

He should be pretty happy with that pencil. At least it wasn't texting though. Good to hear he's fine, and the car... sure, it'll add character! Nothing like a few more battle scars to show this car means business... or has been beaten on relentlessly. Look at it this way, once it's a jolopy (proper term) than you can take it out in a blaze of glory!!
