sounds like bs.... once upon a time i bought a truck, seller told me the check engine light was for an o2 sensor or something unimportant like that, well i found out the hard way after the fact it was for a trnsmission problem and it soon after it died. get the code checked and find out what it really is. the best option is brin g a code reader before you go out used car shopping and check for yourself. otherwise around here auto parts stores will check codes for free. i would assume you should be able to get that done somewhere in quebec, tell the owner you want to take it for a ride and get that checked out for yourself. good luck

like sensor or checked engine i mean are often nothing and can run even thow its lighted in the dash. but i dont want to buy the car and its a 500$ or more sensor to be changed !ill try and find a sensor reader from friends and plug it in to see the details.

yea it can often be nothing, lots of emissions sensors can set it off and not be a big deal. but you dont want to get screwed and find out you just bought a car that is just a ticking time bomb with a huge repair bill lurking.

The plug is under the dash, around the hood latch switch. The code will pop up on the code reader. From there you can either consult the manual that goes with the code reader, or Google it.
