Some GM cars have the capability of the engine being able to be shut off if it's stolen, but the Vibe is not one of them. The Vibe has very basic OnStar capabilities I'm guessing since it's more Toyota then GM.

Isn't the OnStar box under the drivers seat? If a thief were to just.. unplug it.. wouldn't the OnStar be no longer active?

Like J_TO_ENVY said, some GM cars have the capability to shut off the engine, but OnStar will NOT give 100% control of the vehicle.

GM is actually going to start selling Onstar kits at places like Best Buy for cars like the Honda Accord and Toyota Corolla, so eventually, one could get an Onstar kit for the Vibe.

I heard if you are not subscribed to the service they will only locate your car for the athorities for a hefty fee.

I guess they're counting on the fact that a thief wouldn't think of that because they'd be in a hurry .Quote, originally posted by lovemyraffe »Like J_TO_ENVY said, some GM cars have the capability to shut off the engine, but OnStar will NOT give 100% control of the vehicle. That's exactly why I didn't subscribe to OnStar. The Vibe doesn't have any of the really cool features like monthly vehicle diagnostic reports, engine shutoff if stolen, etc.Quote, originally posted by MotoAce51 »I heard if you are not subscribed to the service they will only locate your car for the athorities for a hefty fee.Wouldn't surprise me.
