Needless to say, I was not very excited to discover that Hitch had had an exciting St. Patrick's day evening. Someone had decided to key all of the cars on my side of the street. Hitch has been left with a thin white scratch along the entire driver side. Any adivice for touching up?

i've heard that the blood of the keyer makes excellent rubbing compound.

New a guy that got his car painted on Friday and was keyed while in his driveway. The paint was not cured yet so the repair was much more costly. As a side note, I've never heard of a keyer get caught. One reason I don't have bumper stickers.

If you can catch your fingernail on the scratch there isn't a whole lot you can do for it than wetsand and polish. Meguiar's makes some good products otherwise. ScratchX works well for just a one time quick fix. It won't completely get rid of the scratch but it will help hide it. You can also try to find:Meguiar's M205 Meguiar's M105Meguiar's M80these products work best if you have an orbital dual action buffer, but you can apply them by hand. check out autogeek.net for the products. Apply and remove in that order, and then apply wax to help protect your paint.I don't recommend wetsanding unless you are very very careful, but...if you do decide to wetsand it down make sure the scratch doesn't go down to primer or metal. Tape off the area approximately 2" around the scratch, and use the really wide painters tape 4". Make sure you keep the surface very wet and you don't need to press too hard or you can quickly burn right through your paint. If you are going to do this you definitely need the compounding products afterwards to smooth it out, shine it up, and protect the remaining paint.
