Power plug in the console - stupid question

Umm... You know that plug in in the console, the lighter adapter type (2003 model, not sure if everyone has it..)? Mine doesn't work, is there a switch for it or something? Every other teensy thing in the car works, so it is odd that this just doesn't. Anyway, feel free to giggle and then tell me, LOL. THANKS!

There isn't a switch for the lighter style outlet in the dash. Could be a loose wire or a fuse perhaps?

there is a switch, right next to the plug, you need to press it in to turn on the outlet

Yes, I am talking about the cigarette lighter one, but not the one in the dash, that works just fine, as does the 110... I have one with a flip up cover INSIDE the big compartment of the center arm rest console... that's the one I was wondering about. I will have to go thru my fuse box I guess.

Several members here have added that in since it wasn't included in the '05+ models. I added it in. You might want to pull the center console out and double check that all the wires are connected.

You have a 2003?I think that outlet is powered by the PPOINT fuse, which might even be in the underhood fuse block, but maybe not. There is also a relay between the fuse and the outlet.Surprisingly, more people have reported having problems with the relay working itself out of it's socket than have mentioned a blown PPOINT fuse. The relay is in a block above the glove box, some crappy pics in
http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=6403. Instead of takingit apart you might be able to jsut reach up in there and feel if the relay is seated.

Hey thanks! Would there be any other indicators if it was this PPOINT fuse? Or is it the only one associated with it?

So it doesn't work all the time? Or, just when the car isn't running

Or is it the only one associated with it?If the PPOINT fuse was blown the onoy thing that would not work is that outlet in the console between the seats.I was wrong, however, unfortunately, the PPOINT fuse is in the fuse block that is under the dashThe full circuit is from the battery -> 100A ALT fuse -> PPOINT fuse -> PPOINT relay -> Outlet. The Relay switching is controlled by Battery -> 100A ALT fuse -> AM1 fuse -> Ignition Switch -> CIG fuse -> PPOINT relay coil. If the 100A ALT fuse was blown, most things wouldn't work, if the AM1 or CIG fuse were blown, then the radio wouldn't work. (the "from the factory" configuration is that, the outlet only gets power when the key is turned enough for the radio to come on) Pretty much leaves either the PPOINT fuse or the PPOINT relay, and or wires, and wires usually are reliable.Unless someone has been in there doing something. Did you buy the car new or used, and if used, was there any evidence that you or previous owners did any wiring mods?

I bought the car used, but from a dealer thats been in business for 37 years in a small town. It was his wife's car from the factory and every other little thing works, I am sure now that its this fuse... or the relay.

you could take that console out and check the wires. there's 4 screw to it. 2 up front, and 2 under the carper piece in the compartment. there's a harness that connects to the plug. once it's off except the wires, check them out and see if there's anything wrong with them.
