more sound deadening but in other places...

So I purchased some Mass Loaded Vinyl about 70lb roll, and many CLD tiles from sounddeadnershowdown.com, some butyl strips too. The doors I followed his directions, stuffed butyl in between the side protection beams and the sheetmetal. I attached CLD tiles to cover aprox. 25% of the sheet metal. This was really easy and made a HUGE difference. I didnt buy any closed cell foam but installed a layer of MLV inside the door plastic in all 4 doors. Did not do the hatch for the added weight. I layed MLV under the rear seats too. And each time I felt that it made some difference in the quietness. I have a 5 speed and hated hearing the noise from our plastic shifter bracket. so I insulated it too. also attached MLV on the cover and the top to seal the sound in. This was a nice one! I barely hear my shifts now... one of my favorite! Then I added some MLV inside the window wiper motor channel. where our intake vents for the cabin is. The channel has NO factory deadening and its next to the engine. I applied some CLD tiles and layed MLV... Another one of my favorite! this made a big difference in engine noise. I still have lots of tire noise, so I added MLV inside the wheel well. about 8-9 inch strip and attached it from the bottom to the strut area, but this mod didnt make much of a difference. I guess the noise is coming thru the floor? I wish I had a way to measure the db but since I dont its all just subjective opinion... I am happy with the results so far though... here are some pics.yohei

My next attempt will be for under the dash and wherever I can on the firewall and front fenders.I didn't go nuts in the doors. I'm old. I tire easy. Just a long strip of the Peel-n-Seal between the crash bars and a block of Roxul in the bottom cavity to clear the window down position. I may revisit the doors.I thought about dropping the headliner .... way too much work for me.Glad the sounding worked for you.

Yeah, I want to see what I can do for floor/fire wall area..The other day, it was raining hard and I know some CLD tiles on the roof will reduce the rain droplet noise alot... but I dont want to drop the roof liner either I also read the how to remove dash.. Seems pretty easy but time consuming. If I could stick some CLD tiles on the back of our plastic dash, that will help too.. and with the dash gone, its probably much easier to insulate the firewall.
