I've driven in 10" of snow without much issue. Not that I'm bragging about it but I have done it and that was with my crappy RSA allseason tires. I'm sure I could do the 12" of snow with the snow tires.

LOL I've got some chains if I need to get stupid. The roads aren't plowed even if I could get out of the driveway. Then I need to get off the hill I live on and down some steep narrow roads. No shoulders and bar ditches. Once the plow comes down my road then It;ll be a chance to get out.

I had no problems driving in 1 foot of snow from our big storm earlier this winter w/AWD & snow tires.

Now today and Wedensday we will have an Ice Storm on top of one to two feet of snow. The snow is just not melting with the temperatures staying below freezing (32) everyday since Thanksgiving!!! I have 6 foot high mountains of it along the street.

Oh How I wish we could be sitting at a nice warm temp of 32F, we've been hovering around -40C for quite some time now Also, the snow seems about the same, 6 foot high snowbanks, and about 5 feet throughout my whole backyard!

Well the snow fall amounts for our area are 20". Right now it looks like the problem isn't the snow but getting around the stranded cars. We'll try and venture out today and see what happens. Right now my my grarge door is a 4 foot drift.

Ice, roads, cars and trucks, trees, telephone electric polls, with humans do not get along very well. Anyway, the snow is very lite at 20 degrees. Very heavy at 32 degrees.

I wouldnt say it was the mother. But again I live in CT and we so far have gotten more snow than Buffalo NY or Maine for that matter this year.We get snow or sleet/ice/rain every 4-5 days on average here now. I'm so glad I have my grandfather's snowthrower (9hp Craftsman 29" two-stage). I've been through a few 6-12 inch storms, and two big 20+ inch drops. This recent one was pure ice and I chipped it all away yesterday (up to 1" thick). I also purchased a roof rake this year and cleared the roof after the last dumper cause roof collapse is the big story around here with the barns and many other buildings subcoming to the weight.

The "mother" of all snow storms was a giant media hype fest... Heck, I bet stores saw sales jump rivaling that of X-mas... Need an economy boost? Just hype out a big storm... COME ON PEOPLE, we've gotten snow in the past... We used to get FAR more snow in central Mi, when I was a kid... Heck, I grew up NEXT to a ski hill, it's been CLOSED for 10yrs, because the snow went away... This is just a blast from the past... People have become VERY "frail" these days...

I had about 30 inches in the back yard from the first one and then another 20 inches last week. not to mention this week's ice storm.

Our "catastrophic" ice storm was all hype, no bite. They were calling for upwards of 1 - 1 1/2" of ice. I overheard an employee at Lowes saying they sold 300 generators and another store in town sold over 200. I guess everyone was freaking out because of the ice storm we had in 2005. I had no power for 3 days in that one. I've already got a generator so this one didn't worry me any. All we ended up getting was about 2 inches of sleet, if that. No power outages here. At least 500 more families have generators for the next catastrophe.

Hype but no bite!? Well apparently you all weren't in the path of this storm. We got 20" inches of snow where I live (NE OK). I've lived in the NE (Ohio, PA, NY) and Upper Midwest (WI) and never have seen 20" inches of snow in 24 hour peroid. Not to mention this area is ill-equiped to handle it. It's funny the 2 worst snow storms I've been in have been south of the mason-dixon line. We had an Ice storm in 08-09 that left us without power for 10 days. Left friends without power for a month. Count your blessing instead of complaining about not getting NAILED.

Who's complaining? Certainly not me. It's not like I was looking forward to an ice storm. I'm just saying that all I heard all week was that we were going to get this huge ice storm and and that didn't happen. I'll take your 20" of snow any day over 2" of ice. And by all hype I mean that's all they did all week (local news, anyway) was build up this storm and nothing really came of it. I was only referring to what happened here, not anywhere else.

Well nailed again! Another foot of snow last night. Had to drive the minivan with chains into work. Then we are going to have 50s this weekend and 60s next week with rain. Here comes the floods!
