and the images and feelings are still vivid...of watching the live coverage because the first Hawaii-born astronaut/first Asian American in space was on board...:'(
I watched a few of the videos this morning. This one in particular had me pretty choked up, especially with the spectator reactions:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v...latedTook me a couple of minutes to get my head together and leave for work this morning after watching it.

This is probably one of my earliest childhood memories. I was in preshool and we all just got laid down on our cots for our naps. I remember all the teachers and staff watching the tv. I was watching it as well due to the direction I was facing and watched the explosion. Next thing I remember was hearing cries from the teachers and that was all I remembered. I was 4 at the time and that moment still sticks in my head.

I spent this afternoon at work reading a detailed history of the Challenger accident. I was only 6 when it happened, so a lot of the detail at the time was lost on me. Oddly enough, this photo stuck with me in a weird way:For those who don't know, the kid in the center with the glasses is Peter Billingsley, AKA "Ralphie" from "A Christmas Story". He was in the crowd that day as a spokesman for the Young Astronaut program. This photo was taken just a few seconds before the explosion. "The future does not belong to the timid.."
