04 base auto. 79K... Im in Buffalo NY, its been freezing here lately, 8-20 degrees during days and single digits to below 0 overnights. my vibe is idling high at about 2k-2100k rpms which I know is normal, but after about 2min it just DROPS to about 1500 rpm's and then slowly crawls back up to 2k again and then slowly warms up to normal temp over the next 5min or so and runs at about 1100 til i put in drive and then its normal 800rpms. I have no clue what this drop in rpms is and it doesnt osciliate it just does it (drops) only once each morning when it sits from overnight temps. Any ideas anyone?

I have the exact same problem. Today i removed the throttle body and spayed throttle body cleaner in the IAC valve passages till it ran clear, and cleaned the Mass Airflow sensor aswell since other threads suggested this. The problem is still there however, not sure what to do next. From what ive been reading the Intake manifold gaskets develop leaks after time especially when the temp drops. Anyone else have some advice for us??

I unhooked my battery for an hour and hooked it back up to reset the computer and the jumpy idle went away. i guess toyota did a recall for 'ambient cold temperature idle problem' but pontiac never. anyway, this seems to have fixxed it. your car will have to re-learn so that will take about 30 mins of actual driving.

http://forums.genvibe.com/zerothread?id=25029same problem fixed in that thread.in short, i had the same exact problem, it was intake manifold gasket, TSB available as known defect in 1ZZ engine. I replaced it with felpro gasket even tho i read dealers carry a better gasket. My problem is completely fixed. After sitting overnight outside in 0deg temp, when i start the car, 1700rpm and steady, warms up and drops, rpm is never fluctuating, nor is it jumpy. i took some pics and posted in that thread above. also with a quick how to. good luck, its an easy fix. yohei
