05 vibe with a rattle in the trans...

My son decided to change the trans oil in his manual 05 Vibe. It looked like it had not been done in some time. The stuff that he drained out was gross. Now after the new trans oil went in, there's an intermittent rattle coming from inside the housing when the clutch is not depressed. Depress the clutch, and the noise goes away. What could cause this? Any ideas?

Did he get the correct amount of fluid back in there? Was it the correct type of oil? Does it make the noise while driving or just idling in neutral?

He had the use of a friend's lift. Proper transmission oil. Car was level. Filled it until it ran out. I asked him the same thing. He notes nothing different while driving, shifting, starting out. Everything "feels" normal. Just that rattly noise when the car idles in neutral... I heard it this evening. An on and off rattle that has no pattern. Push the clutch in and you hear quiet. Can't hear it driving.

Well... is there anything around the transmission heat-shield wise or one of the cables that could be loose? It could be that the new oil has freed up some of the shifter forks. Drive it for a bit, see what happens. Maybe in a couple hundred miles change to a heavier oil.

This is scary, now SD. I just called and told him to drive it a while longer, and if the noise doesn't go away in a few days, to change oil again and use a different brand. At least it's not having any negative effects. Yet.

Alright... let's see how weird this gets....I'd recommend this as a replacement oil:

If the noise goes away by just applying pressure to the clutch pedal with 2 fingers and pressing a little more but not enough to totally disengage the clutch then I suspect some noisey clutch fingers, springs or throwout bearing rattle. I mean pressing the pedal no more than 1 inch with the engine running.
